Not my favorite
I've got to be honest: the Pilot Metropolitan is the most overrated "cheap" fountain pen on the market. It was my first experience with fountain pens a few years ago, and I sold that first one with no regrets. Believing maybe it was the nib size (I used to have a fine, and have since found I prefer a medium nib), I took a chance on this one. I loved the orange flower design on the barrel and well, it's a pretty pen. I inked it once and when the cartridge was empty, I cleaned it, dried it and back in the box it went. I'd have to say, in terms of starter fountain pens, you should go with a TWSBI. Their nibs write a lot smoother right out of the box, and I've never had any hard starts with a TWSBI pen, unlike this Metro and my Lamys. If you're particular about staying within the Pilot family and you have the means to do so then spring for a Vanishing Point or a Decimo if you can, which are still very easy to use with cartridges even for a beginner.

Best fountain pen
I have been on a fountain pen kick lately and have bought five different kinds. This one is my favorite so I’m getting one more of them. I got the fine tip and its perfect for writing. Smooth and easy, not scratchy at all. The other types I tried were too wet and looked messy. This one feels right and well balanced in my hand, just the right weight. I find the grip on it comfortable and not too slick or too small. The cap posts comfortably on the pen while I’m writing. I cant find a single negative about it. Great value.

Wonderful pen! Good for lefties.
I absolutely adore this pen.My first fountain pen was a Lamy Safari, which was okay, but kinda scratchy. This pen writes smooth as butter and applies ink to the page nice and wet. I wish I had bought this one first! As a lefty, this pen works amazingly. It comes with 1 black ink cartridge and a squeeze converter. The converter isn't the greatest, but it does the job, and it was free!I'm using Noodler's Antietam, and it writes like a dream! The med point nib writes at about .7mm in my experience, though it varies by paper texture and quality.

Amazing for the price!
I originally bought this so that I could test shimmering inks, like Emerald of Chivor (absolutely beautiful ink btw), without worrying about damaging my nicer pens. However, I ended up falling in love with it and it quickly became a regular use pen. I highly suggest this for absolutely anyone that wants a fountain pen that's a step above the Varsity series, but isn't so expensive that you're constantly worried about damaging it.

Great pen at a really reasonable price
Very nice fountain pen, especially for the price. This pen writes like a much more expensive fountain pen and can be used with both cartridges and ink, via the enclosed converter. For those of us who prefer writing with fountain pens it is hard to find one that is not super expensive but writes really well. This one fits that bill quite well. Good heft to it without being overly heavy. It has a nice feel in the hand and a smooth writing nib (I prefer a fine point). I have purchased several of these over the last couple of years and all of them are holding up perfectly. If you order the red one - know that it is actually much more of an orange color - I wish it had been more of a true red. The pilot cartridges that they sell for this pen also work very well and I have never had any leakage problems with any of these pens.

This Is The One
In the last week or so, I've been on a Fountain Pen kick. I have purchase several pens and this onein review is the best. I received it today and have been testing it out, since I received it. So far, ithasn't skipped or bled through the paper. I don't know how long this will last. However, I have totruly say at this time, it's the best fountain pen that I have ever written with. The quality of this penis superb and sold at a fair price...

Inexpensive pen that feels twice as expensive!
I've used a few plastic fountain pens and nib holders in the past and this is my first metal fountain pen. The experience is totally different, it's so smooth, needs no pressure to start writing unlike ball-point pens. The weight is a little top heavy if you leave the cap on, but with is off, it' a nice solid feel. The brushed aluminum shimmers slightly under a light and looks super classy. This makes a great and inexpensive gift. It comes with one ink cartridge; the converter is installed in the pen by default so you'll want to remove that first and then install the cartridge. The ink it comes with is black. I's say it dried completely in about 6-7 seconds. The fine nib can allow some pretty small writing. See attached photos for reference. Demo writing was done on the Clairefontaine notebook.

Amazing!
This is my first not cheap fountain pen. I absolutely love it! It is so worth it. The pen itself is totally gorgeous. It is between a true red and scarlet with a pleasant sheen that isn't too glaringly shiny. It is fun and professional. My favorite part is the writing which is so smooth. You don't need any pressure at all. It's fluid ease in gliding across the page is so wonderful. It is such a joy to right with. I would highly recommend this as a starter pen. High quality without the price tag! It comes in a nice gift box with, a rubber tweezer ink converter, and one ink cartridge to get you started. You won't regret getting this lovely fountain pen!

Avoid the fine nib
Couldn't find this pen anywhere to test the nib, so just took the plunge on the basis that it had such outstanding reviews.Jury is out on that one for me, as the fine nib is just too fine. It is scratchy to write with. I ended up giving it to a friend. For me the fine nib is a 2-star writing experience.I would be interested in trying out the standard nib, because I do like the style of the pen. I suspect I should simply have got the standard nib.

Fantastic pen at under £15
Fantastic pen for this price point.* Snap cap* Solid enough build* Aesthetics and section size a matter of taste* Came with an ink converter and one Pilot cartridgeNote: As with most pens in this price range, I found I benefited from removing and reseating nib and feed under an eye loupe before use to ensure proper nib/feed/tine alignment. Nib perfect out of the box.

Pilot MR Review
Pen has proven in every regard to be a first class writer with an especially smooth, fine nib. Highly recommended!

The finest line I get from any of my pens.
I bought this pen to see if a Japanese pen would suit my writing style. It will keep its place on my desk for the very fine line it draws. I have it loaded with my favourite ink, Pelikan 4001, in Brilliant Brown. I still use fountain pens, partly from nostalgia, partly from a deep desire to reduce waste and I greatly appreciated having a converter included with the pen. It's a bit "old school" being of the squeeze variety rather than piston driven, but it works and made this a great value proposition in my eyes. Considering the fineness of the nib, it still moves very smoothly across the paper. I do not know if it needed to be "run in" a little, but when I switched from the included cartridge to the bottled ink, it did seem much smoother.

Parallel
