I'm an experienced "wet shaver" (brush, soap and traditional safety razor), and I've tried Proraso, Pre de Provence, Cella, Haslinger, Mitchell's, Speick, Tabac, and Crabtree & Evelyn soaps, and I have to put this at the top. It lathers quicker and slicker than Pre de Provence or Proraso, doesn't overwhelm the nose like Tabac or Cella and just does everything right! The smell is delicate, yet manly - fresh, floral, woodsy and solid - it lingers, but melds with whatever you bring to the table afterward. Super slick, super easy, great "cushion" and rinses clean with no burn. Hit your face with some Thayer's witch hazel, your favorite splash (4711 and Proraso blend beautifully scent-wise, by the way) and you are good!PS. The beautiful wood bowl is a fantastic and fitting housing for such a fine shave soap. I expect a long life out of the soap, too. I've waited far too long to try this!My next favorite soaps would be: 2. Haslinger Schafmilch Raseiriefe Ewe's Milk shave soap (fantastic soap, but not exciting in the scent department) 3. Proraso "green" 4. Speick (tallow stick) 5. Mitchell's Wool Fat 6. Pre de Provence. 7. Prorasso Sandalwood (heavy scent and better for winter, but good). Cella and Tabac were way too cloying and heavy in scent and Cella burned my face. Badger Balm's shave soap, Crabtree & Evelyn "Sienna" and Williams aren't even worth mentioning for being such poor performers, but Williams does edge out Badger's and C&E on account of it having some level of slickness to it.Anyway, that's my 2¢. One of the best scents I've ever experience from a shaving soap.Another great shaving soap from Dr Harris... The lather is of very high quality, thick and the lubrication is just about the best you can find anywhere at any price. In fact, there post shave feel is legendary. I highly recommend this brand (along with anything from Catie's Bubbles or Taylor of Old Bond Street) since I have several of their scents. Their Windsor is also phenominal. The quality of their formulation is the same regardless of scent. However, I would stay away from their Marlbourogh since to me, it smells like an ashtray...and Ive heard that complaint many times. I have tried well over 60 different shaving soaps and creams so at this point, I have an informed opinion for what that's worth. You can't go wrong with this or Catie's Bubbles, TOOBS or most of the RazorRock line. For that matter, some cheap soaps like Arko or Chela's are still in business for a good reason...If you like their scents.

Excellent. Formidable product. The foam is intense and consistente. Only it needs very little.It remains good on the skin. Shaving improved a lot compared to other soaps. Foams ready are poor by comparison. The scent is pleasant, rather neutral, ideal for anyone. I never had anything better, I was really surprised and very satisfied. I have hard water, which is why I suspect many soaps don't work very well for me. So I went on my fave wet-shaving site, Sharpologist (dot com) (shameless plug I know, it is very helpful to me!) and read some reviews, and this was a highly recommended brand & scent from many on there. I absolutely love it, this slicks my skin as I expect, but I finally have LATHER. The difference between shaving in the lather from my old soaps and this DR Harris one is analogous to skiing (skittering?) on ice in the Poconos or skiing on actual snow powder in CO or VT. Add to that - the Arlngton scent is just wonderful, makes me think fresh, clean, happy morning thoughts. Can't go wrong with this one IMO.

Great shave soap. Performs well. Easily makes a slick lather. The scent is a bit overpowering at first and then it mellows out. TSA pulled it out of my bag at a checkpoint because it looked like a jar of cream on the x-ray. So I wouldn’t fly with it in a carryon bag.

Purchased for my husband for Christmas. I typically buy him Taylor of Old Bond Street. I decided to buy this brand instead to switch it up.He likes it. The scent is great. This is harder compared to Taylor of Bond Street. With this you need a shaving brush to get the foam to lather. My husband said this does lather better though! He said that it doesn’t leave a “film” on your face afterwards either which he likes. The other brand made his face feel greasy afterwards.

The title of this review is on the label and is a good description of the soap.There is a fresh pleasing scent as you build up the lather.This is a field woodland scent that is very masculine without trying to overpower you.Like all D R Harris shaving soaps, the scent will not stay long after shaving.The wood bowl is finished with no rough spots fitting easily in your hand while working up lather without becoming slippery.Refills are available and any D R Harris soap will fit the bowl.This is quality soap from a well-established company that is a pleasure to use and makes an impressive gift.

Lovely fragrance of orange blossom is very classy. Bowl and lid looks great in the bathroom. Product gives a very comfortable shave but need to bloom the soap with water before lathering. Only issue is the label is difficult to remove and has left a sticky residue.

An ongoing purchase as several men in my family continue to use this so it must be good.

Bought this to go with a traditional shaving brush. It is well made, the soap smells divine and I'm told by my husband that it gives a close , clean shave .
