Installed on a 2011 Kawasaki KLR650.
If you own and ride a Kawasaki KLR650 with the factory 15 tooth front, 43 tooth rear sprocket arrangement, replace the 15 tooth front sprocket with this 16 tooth sprocket from Sunstar. It fits perfectly with no modifications to the bike, the chain guard, or the number of chain links. This 16 tooth sprocket made the KLR650 much more enjoyable to drive, especially at highway speeds. There's a very little difference when starting from a stop in first gear, considering the torque this engine produces. Shifting out of first gear is now at 25 mph. Much better when driving in city traffic. Previously, when traveling 65 mph the 15 tooth sprocket, the engine turned 4500 rpm's. With this 16 tooth sprocket, I now travel 71 mph at 4500 rpm's. If you hit trails, you can easily change back to a smaller tooth sprocket. This Sunstar sprocket was a bargain for it's price and the improvements it created.

Turns KLR into a long range mile eating machine!
I cant speak on the longevity of this sprocket but the install was easy and it has truly transformed my KLR into a long range touring bike. I can now do 70mph comfortably. At 5k the KLR buzzes horribly, this dropped my rpms at 70mph 600rpm which is incredible. at 70mph my klr is now at 43-4500 rpm. I use 4th gear up to 60 now and then change to 5th so 4th gear gets more range as well. If you are doing a lot of offroad technical or stop and start I would stay with the 15 tooth. you do lose some torque on the low end and feathering the clutch gets old but if most of your miles are done at highway speed like me then this is the ticket. This cut out the oil burning completely and MPG has been improved by about 5 miles. As cheap a upgrade as this is I think it is worth a try, if you don't like it switch back to the 15 tooth

Works as designed. Everyone is right, drops the RPMs by 500
Much smoother on the freeway at 70, but definitely not like having a real 'sixth gear'. I don't understand why people say they have problems offroad with the 16 tooth sprocket...more throttle!SUPER nice around town too!

Sprocket has a long life.
I have been using 16T Sunstar sprockets for over 140,000 miles on a 2007 KLR 650 Kawasaki. I just changed the last one. 60,000 miles and it was getting that "shark teeth" look to it. Yes.....the chain and sprockets get lubed every time I get fuel.....but that is still very impressive. Great product! Expect less mileage if you run in the sand/dirt or don't lubricate the chain/sprockets.

Appears to be a durable front sprocket, but needed more measurements
I replaced my chain and both sprockets at the same time. I noticed that the thickness of the sprocket side (that fits against the transimission housing) appears thinner than the sprocket I replaced. Now there is an audible "click" when I drive the bike. I feel like I'll need to place spacers between the sprocket and the transmission housing so that it equals the thickness of the original sprocket.

The sprocket works out fine but...,
if your KLR is like my 2014, you will have to shave the chainguard a bit so that it doesn't rub.

Good for freeway speeds
Installed on my 2007 KLR 650 today. Found a significant improvement at freeway speeds using the 16 tooth front with the stock 43 tooth rear (16/43). I'm not finding the low range too lacking and it still pulls hard off the line. I wouldn't be worried about trail riding with this combination.Several people complain about the gearing with a 16/43 being too tall and swapping out the 1st gear from a KLR600 is a creative option.Another option would be to carry around a 27mm socket to swap at the trailhead. Honestly this is way too much effort for me and I wouldn't bother. If you go this route, I highly recommend getting a "Prevailing Torque Nut" instead of using the retaining washer that has to be pried down.I will be recommending this product to friends and would purchase again.

Great sprocket, great price and fast shipping.
This 16T brought my rpm down nearly 1000 at highway speeds vs. the stock 15T on my 2006 KLR 650 and that’s exactly what I was looking to do. Thanks!

Significant Upgrade for the KLR 650 (2008)
This completely changed it's behavior roads and highway. It feels no different when driving it, it's just faster for the same engine power. at 100km/h it's reving at 3,900 rpm instead of 4,400 - 4,500 rpm. At 120km/h it rev at around 4,400 instead of 4,900. It's way less buzzy and confortable. I didn't felt a lost of power on low gear, again it just go faster.I felt in love again with my bike, if that didn't work I was thinking about changing it for something more road oriented.

Great mod for KLR
Made my KLR useable at highway speeds and didn’t hurt the bottom end. I can pass trucks on the highway without topping out halfway through the pass.
