Buy cheap, buy twice.
I wanted a cheap and cheerful compass that I could lend to people to navigate over some moorland near my home and not stress if they lost it or forgot to return it.I bought one of these a few weeks ago and it seemed OK for the price and in a colour that is not easily lost. I decided to buy a second one which leaked the damping fluid (paraffin or white spirit?) on its first outing making it unusable and an unpleasant mess.I have good quality Silva and Suunto compasses which cost (in some cases, a lot) more and have never let me down - compasses it seems are one of those things where the old adages "you get what you pay for" and "buy cheap, buy twice" definitely apply!

Faulty
The compass looks great but it's useless if it's not working. It has mixed reviews but I decided to take a chance. The compass kind of points north... sometimes... if you shake it a little while it's placed on a very even surface... I wouldn't like to rely on it out in the field. The only thing this compass points to is a bad review unfortunately. I will be returning and seeking another. It's a shame as it's a great looking compass.

Unreliable.. poles reversed during trip out! Red pointed south.
I’m normally a fan of Highlander value range but not this item. I bought it for my wife to carry purely as a back up so I could show her how to use it on the hills. Unfortunately, a few months after purchase, on first use on the hills, it had flipped poles … ie red pointed very nearly South! Fortunately my Silva was ok.

Nice and bright and easy to read
Great thing about this is you don't need your glasses to be able to read it, or even find it! Great as a simple orienteering compass, although you obviously can't take accurate bearings with it, so it is great for what it is.

Grandson loved it
Grandson (9) loved this, his first compass - definitely went down well.I think it's probably accurate enough for his age group. Appealing colours too.
