Simply the Best!
Abby Langer's Good Food, Bad Diet is a must-read for everyone struggling with "diet culture", food misinformation, and the "fake science" put out by marketers and so-called "experts" in the area of nutrition. Abby debunks the myths and shares the science behind food, all the while stressing that food is neither "good" nor "bad", it's just food and should be appreciated and enjoyed. Her focus on our relationships with food and the reasons why we struggle with "diets" and are consumed by numbers (weight, calories, grams, etc.) go where no book on nutrition has gone before. As a now 62-year-old with a lifetime eating disorder and OCD, I always felt that "control" was my main issue and obstacle. This book helped me see that many other factors and issues such as "seeking perfection " and "lack of worthiness" also have contributed to my relationships with food. Although even in the introduction, Abby stresses that this is NOT intended for people struggling with such eating disorders, I am finally at peace with my attitudes and beliefs about food.Ditch the diets! This is not a "diet" or "meal plan" book. This is instead a guide to healthier attitudes and more guilt-free enjoyment of "food, glorious food!"Kim WrinkleSilverton, COLifetime endurance athlete (long distance runner)

A breath of fresh air!
I was thin as a young girl/young woman and so when age and weight began to creep up at the same time - I had no idea where to begin. I knew from a few futile attempts at faddish diets that my answer did not lie there. I also know that my love of cooking and of sharing great food with friends was not going to go away without some resentment and deep sense of loss. So it was with great enthusiasm that I searched for - and encountered - with Abby's book and my own extra research - the idea that it was not the food that was plaguing me. It was more my relationship with food and weight and the cult of thin-ness that needed re-examining. (I also needed to conscientiously just move more, but that's a whole additional topic!). Abby's book is a great read and it is filled with the kind of useful and practical and easy to adopt suggestions and information I needed. I Highly Recommend you spend a little time with this book. A gentle mix of the art and the science of food and life balance. I loved it.

Repair your relationship with food!
If you are contemplating buying this book, do it! So many people unknowingly have disordered eating habits and it’s not their fault. Look up the history of fad diets, going back to 1930 starting with low calorie diet plans and the grapefruit diet.... to where we are now with Keto being the rage and the push from the media. Even doctors get behind these fad diets and guess what, they can work, but the results are usually short term and affect our relationship with food. As a Registered Dietitian myself, I’m so thankful for Abby Langer, RD who keeps it real and her book really helps break it all down so you can take an inner look at your own relationship with food and try to fix the negative thoughts in our head. Want to have have a normal relationship with food? Want to be able to beat the pressure to join the next fad or weight loss challenge that teaches poor habits but still succeed in your goals? Buy Good Food, Bad Diet... you won’t regret it! Trust the Registered Dietitians of the world over all else. We are the experts.

Best book on nutrition and food I've read
After years of stressing over food, weight, and overall nutrition, I found this book to be what I've needed all along. Abby does not mince words about fad diets, unnecessary supplements - including ones added into food products as a selling point - or the exaggerated marketing of everything related to diets. Using science, she breaks down what healthy bodies actually need and reminds the reader not to feel guilty about enjoying food. That is probably the message I've needed to hear most of my adult life - don't feel guilty about enjoying food. This is so contrary to what I've allowed myself to believe and I had to read the sentence a few times to fully process it. Needless to say, the book changed my mindset which led to a change in my daily diet. I feel better, physically and emotionally, and have a better understanding of health. I cannot recommend this book enough!

This book is a keeper
I love this book! It is a no-nonsense, science-based, enjoyable read. Abby creates a no judgement zone and gets to the heart of why so many diets fail: deprivation is not a motivator. She debunks myths, breaks down the science of nutrition into digestible information. She does not vilify food. Food is woven into the fabric of our lives, and we should be able to enjoy it. As she says, there is no bad foods! Yes, it is OK to have a piece of grandma's cake. The key is moderation. I am so sick and tired of my social feed being filled with BS diet scams...Neora, Beachbody, you name it...peddled by people who have no clue about basic anatomy and physiology...they are nothing more than modern-day snake oil salesmen. New flash: there is no instant panacea, no magic powder, that's simply fact.Abby is the real deal with real credentials. I am so glad I found this gem of a book. No more diets for me, just a commonsense, science-based approach to eating. Thank you Abby!!!

Great educational book about nutrition
This book was great! I have read about and tried so many diets over the years and was feeling like I just had no idea what to eat anymore. Abby’s book laid everything out simply and in easy to understand concepts. I even took notes so that I can gradually start to work in new good habits. This book doesn’t contain a diet for you to try but rather an introduction to a more balanced and healthy lifestyle that offers you flexibility and no restrictions. So it’s not a quick fix but a tool to help you make more educated decisions when choosing what food you put into your body. And that includes ice cream so I’m all in. :)

I’ve actually read it - it’s excellent
This book is an antidote to all the b.s, MLM, quick fix, quack science you see advertised EVERYWHERE. It simply helps you do what you need to do to eat well for your body and your own goals. How to help yourself deal with behaviours around food that YOU want to deal with, not what someone else thinks you should . It doesn’t plug some one size fits all multi cure “cleanse” or “juice” or “reset” or “reboot” because that’s all nonsense. If not all the one star reviews from people who haven’t actually read it and are just butthurt Abby see through their weight loss snake oil and will help you see through it too .

The only book you will ever need
In short, fantastic! So refreshing to finally have a sensible, science based approach to diet and eating habits. This is not a book to tell you to cut out this, buy that, drink this potion nonsense. This is a book to cut through all the fluff out there (and let's face it, there's a lot) and give you the tools to have a better relationship with food, and ultimately yourself. Abby has no qualms telling it like it is and I appreciate that. If you want a book to guide you, help you look at your eating habits, and tell you facts about all facets of food and nutrition, then this is the book for you. Can't recommend enough!

Ditch the diet!!
Warning! Once you realise that the diet industry is utter b*****ks, there will be no turning back. If you've started to question why your diet hasn't worked in the long (or short) term. If you get fed up of celebrities and 'influencers' peddling the latest get thin quick fad and want some actual science about nutrition without the bull, pick up this book. Abby has a no nonsense approach to nutrition that challenges what we sometimes take as gospel (carbs are bad, eating in the evening make you gain more weight etc) . She doesn't ignore the mental health aspect and gives advice on how to fix your relationship with food.

Game Changer
Would it be too much to say this changed my life? Honestly, I got sucked into diet culture in my teens. Most of my life, I've bounced from one diet to another. Luckily, I stumbled upon Abby's book and it has actually changed my life! As a Registered Dietitian, her approach is science based and this book is packed full of useful information. But the best thing about her book is that she writes in such a relatable manner that I felt like I was chatting with my wisest, smartest, most tough-love friend. I honestly feel silly that I was duped into so many pseudoscience laden scam diets and pyramid schemes over the years. This book has given me the knowledge and freedom I needed to make solid healthy choices. I'm no longer trapped by fear anymore. I can't thank you enough for this book Abby.

The no nonsense approach to healthy eating we all need to read.
I have been following Abby for quite some time on her blog and social media. I love how she sets the record straight on fad diets and health myths using common sense and a scientific voice of reason. Her book Good Food, Bad Diet dives deeper, into your own core beliefs and how they influence your food choices. She tackles the topics of understanding your own hunger/fullness cues, carbs, proteins and fats (and why they're all important), and of course - the pervasive diet culture we live in.Written in a conversational manner, this book is like having dietitian Abby in your back pocket guiding and empowering you to make the best food decisions for yourself. An informative read with some hilarious moments, Good Food, Bad Diet would help anyone struggling with food; whether it's not knowing what or how to eat well, chronic dieting, or finally fixing your own relationship with food and your body for good.
