Touch & Go: A Novel

Petey's bookies
I gave this book a five star rating as it was one of the most gripping and interesting novels I've read in a long time. The characters are very well defined, the story is unique and laid out beautifully. The story comes from the present, goes to the past with Libby's memories.all done very methodically and plays like a well tuned violin. There is pretty much everything you might want in this novel..sex, love, infidelity, rich people and the egregious crime of kidnapping. The three kidnappers are all believable with some more evil and diabolical than the others and like the victims, you will find yourself even liking one of them a little bit. I have read almost all of this novel in three nights and have about l0% to finish reading. I consider a novel worthy when I find myself anticipating the reading and staying up past midnight to read so this is a very worthy novel. A further positive note on the story is the fact that with only l0% left to read, I still am not certain as to the motives of the kidnappers. It is a story where many could be involved in the crime, many having motives, many showing personalities that would be very capable or orchestrating the crime.I will recommend this book to family and friends.

Great psychological thriller
I have this book from Audible. I'm not sure how much the narrator influenced my enjoyment of the book. But she did a great job with the 1st person narrative of Libby. This is the second time I listened to this audio book as I am waiting from credits from Audible later in the month. The plot has been explained many times in reviews here, so I won't spend time on it. Generally I don't re-read books. But I found myself immediately drawn in again during the first pages, even though I knew the basics and ending.Instead, I concentrated on the development of Libby. For those who have complained about the slow parts of the book, I think they were referring to how Libby (the perfect repressed housewife}, psychologically copes with her situation as a captive. She has time to reflect on her life in relation to her husband, self and daughter. She comes up pretty empty. This part of the book deals with her development as a person of courage, endurance, ingenuity and compassion. It's slow. People don't change overnight. O.K. in this book she sort of does because of the timeline. But I think that demonstrates how the impact of an horrific event can change lives quickly and forever. Hence if you are just reading for plot you will be disappointed. However I think Ms. Gardner skill as a thoughtful, creative writer comes alive in the middle, and the reader's time is well spent enjoying it.Because Libby's development as a character was to me, the central theme of the book, short shrift was given to all the other characters. But enlarging upon them would have made this a really long book. Besides, I didn't care that much about them during my second reading.I did not give it 5 stars as I give those out sparingly. But I highly recommend this book for plot and character development. You won't be disappointed.

If You Eat Oranges, Beware! (LOL)
Nothing says great storyline like a good old-fashioned kidnapping! Libby Denbe, devoted wife and mother of eighteen years, believed she had it all--or did she? Material things to the outside world makes a person appear as though they have it together, but do they really?Being married to the alpha male, Justin Denbe, who inherited his father's construction business, Denbe Construction, at the tender ager of 27-years old, made his father's business grow twice the amount after his father's untimely death. But there are some things that money certainly can't buy, which the Denbe family soon found out after three very powerful men, stormed upon their home taking the entire family from all that they knew.Libby starts off telling the reader what her pain tastes like. Her flavor of choice, oranges. The ordeal she and her family journey through is one hell of a roller coaster ride, with all the twists and turns one suspecting reader can handle. This was an outstanding book, and needless to say, will most definitely keep you turning the pages. What you think is happening, may not be what you expect. One thing the Denbes soon learn is that the family life they share, with all its money and power, and love, isn't exactly what their family was truly about. Excellent read, and you'll enjoy the suspense!

Touch & Go - Lisa Gardner
This was the first book that I have ever read from Lisa Gardner. I couldn't put the book down. She kept you guessing until the end. I've become a great fan of hers and ordered "Alone" right after I finished this book. Alone was just as great as Touch and Go.
