Such a great explanation of the process and loved the pictures.
This will give you great ideas on making things that you may think are only available in restaurants and cool food co-ops you read about in magazines. The recipes are laid out easily however you should know the author is based outside of the US and some products may need some searching where you are.

Unexpected contents
The variety of recipes was not really to my liking. I was expecting something else. Perhaps I don't know enough about fermented foods to really appreciate this book.

MUCH MORE THAN SAUERKRAUT!
This is a GREAT little entry-level book for all-around fermentation techniques. In addition to the obligatory cabbage, it covers, milk kefir grains, water kefir grains, ginger beer plant (I had never heard of it!), yogurt, sourdough, brining, dry-salting, fermenting in miso,, and much more. There is a recipe section with interesting recipes for grains, including a fermented cornmeal and red lentil dosa pancakes. (Those of you who are familiar with Indian food will know what dosas are.)It isn't the definitive tome on any of these processes, but it allows you to get your feet wet and then venture further into different processes if you choose to. It is very visually appealing. There is a beautiful, full-page color photo for every recipe which is both helpful and inspiring. Perhaps a little too inspiring in my case. Within a week of receiving the book I had gallon jars of fermenting beverages everywhere. Currently, I am brewing kombucha, Jun (not covered in the book, but inspired by it when I looked for Kombucha mothers) Milk Kefir, Water Kefir and my favorite, Ginger Beer Plant. I am also fermenting a jar of green beans as well as some onions and red lentils. So far, the recipes are easy to follow and produce good results. The Ginger Beer Plant was the biggest hit with me. I LOVE ginger beer but is a little pricey to drink often. I was afraid the Ginger Beer Plant would produce a vinegary beverage like Kombucha. To my great joy, it produces a pretty decent ginger beer in as little as 5 days using nothing but simple items, most of which you already have. You can find the ginger beer plant SCOBY online pretty easily. I got mine from Amazon. (The book tells you about SCOBYs, if you don't already know about them.)I am pretty new to fermenting anything other than sourdough and yogurt, and I have to say that this is a perfect introduction to the processes covered. This book contains a lot of material for the money. I plan to make a gift of this book to some of my friends.

Something did not work
I bought this book immediately when I saw the name of the author. I have purchased other books written by her and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Unfortunately I cannot say the same thing with this book. Most of the recipes require a very lengthy preparation, lots of ingredients and did not come across as very easy to make. I tried a few and I was not super impressed. I very rarely reach for it. It could be a matter of personal taste, but this book did not appeal to me. I will wait for the next one by this author!

Excellent book
Excellent book with good recipes. I am new to fermenting and this book is permanently on the side for reference. I don't drink tea and never have done, But brewed as kombucha it's wonderful and so good for the gut. I've experimented with many of the drinks in the book, not had any Pepsi for almost a month and three friends have bought the book too and started fementing!
