Quality Set of Knives
I, like just about everyone else, took a while in researching knives. I had a smaller budget and wanted a set with a good company to back it, as well as a variety of knives in the set. This fit the bill perfectly. The knives were pretty sharp when I got them, but I sharpened them before using them the first time to get a really nice edge. The block is very nice and solid wood, with extra slots for building your collection in the future. The serrated scissors are great, and can cut through just about anything. The chef knife and santoku have gotten a ton of use, and keep the edge really really well. The knife I have used the most is the pairing knife. It's the perfect size and shape for peeling etc., and doesn't hurt after a long period of use. All of the knives have a really great feel also. They aren't too heavy to make it a chore to use them, but have enough weight to feel like they won't snap when really put to use. Haven't really used the rest of the knives enough yet to say how they perform.Over all, I am very pleased with this set and would recommend it to anyone. I have even thought about taking these to work with me at the place I cook, because they out-perform all the other knives in the kitchen.UPDATE: I have had these knives for a few years now, and always get compliments from others who use them. They have held up extremely well, and show no signs of use. All handles are solid, not faded or cracked. Blades are still shiny, and hold their edge very well. The only thing I thought could have been a little better was the steak knives... they're nice, but not as nice as the rest of the set.

Very Good Knives!
Knives are very sharp and durable so far (only had a month). Easy to handle.

Exceptional
These are wonderful knives. Very sharp and stylish. The function is also superior to our previous knives. We always hand wash them, but my wife left the utility blade in some water in the sink once and it did develop rust spots. This isn't a problem as we understand this is high carbon steel, not stainless steel. She'll be more careful in the future to prevent this from happening again.

Great set for starting out
This is a great set for those who want good knives but aren't chefs or knife snobs. I haven't used my purchased set much yet, but my former housemate had them and they were excellent.

Definitely buy... invest in good sharpening tools.
Look, flat out, these knives are probably going to be more than you'll ever need. If you're wondering if this set is going to be good enough for you, then you don't know enough about chef knives to require the $279 Wusthof Santoku that only a chef could appreciate. Besides, most people don't realize that there's more than a hefty price tag to a fancy knife: maintenance. Yes, even the nicest of knives can't hold an edge forever, and the high level of professional care and maintenance required to keep those knives that way is only worth it to the most serious of cooks. For those of you who are home cooks who want to treat themselves to something nice for their kitchen, this is the highest level of cutlery you'll require. These knives require just the right amount of care to make them worth their weight, balance, and precision. I promise you, the quality will surprise you. There are two reasons I didn't give this item 5 stars.1) The description says "Made In Germany." I still think these are awesome, but the blade clearly says "Made in China." So, for those of you out their chastising us reviewers for no noticing the "International" in the title, the description still needs to be fixed....on a more practical note...2) These knives definitely could have a sharper edge than the one out of the box. Depending on your skill and/or devotion, I would recommend either investing in some sharpening blocks and training, or take them to a professional. I tend to stay away from those "insta-sharpen" products, but that's just me. If treated correctly, these knives are more than capable of having a razor edge.

Great set for the money.
I can't say that I have seen every set on the market but, I have looked at Chicago Cutlery, Wustoh, and some other not a recognized brands. I can say for the money, these were the best knives I could find. I can't speak for the longevity of these knives at this time but, I don't have any doubt that with proper care they will last me a long time.I did however dock them 1 star for the following reasons...1. I don't care for the serrated knives. However, because it's only the steak knives and the utility (which is more like a bread knife serration) it's not so bad. A good sharp knife doesn't need serrations and they only make them harder to sharpen. Cut a piece of meat with one of your other knives to see for yourself.2. The bolster on the Santoku knife doesn't extend into the heel of the blade and provide good finger protection like the chefs knife. I tend to choke up on my knives and I don't like the feel of the narrow heel of the blade on my finger. All of the knives in the set could have benefited from a little better finger guard/bolster but, they are sufficient for the price. The Santoku also has a straighter cutting edge than I would like. I prefer slightly more curve to the blade. I've seen others with curve and it's what I prefer but, it isn't a deal breaker by any means.3. The block has more holes than needed for a 13 pc set. May be good if you plan to add more knives later but, if all you want is 13, then you have extra holes. It's a cosmetic knit pick but, it's only a small part of the reason I docked the set one star.4. I also wish the buts of the steak knives matched the other with Henckels logo, but again it's a cosmetic knit pick.Besides these points I can't find anything else to complain about. I will say to watch the amazon price on these knives. They changed in price by more than $20 withing 24hrs of placing my order. Amazon was kind enough to price match themselves, but I have been informed that they do not price match after the items have shipped.
