Although her non-fiction is slightly better I still enjoyed the read
I have read all of Tory Haydens non-fiction books multiple times and because this was a novel I wasn't sure if she would be able to keep me as riveted. Although her non-fiction is slightly better I still enjoyed the read.

OVERHEARD IN A DREAM
i ADORE TOREY HADEN AND HAVE READ ALL HER BOOKS AT LEAST 2X. I WAS A LITTLE DISAPOINTED WHEN I GOT THIS AND FOUND OUT IT WAS FICTION UNLIKE THE OTHERS I HAD READ BUT ONCE I STARTED READING I WAS TOTALLY SUCKED IN AND DON'T WANT TO PUT IT DOWN. I LOVE THIS STORY.

Disappointing .... expected better
Having read previous non-fiction Torey Hayden books and having become so engrossed in her ability to transform children's lives, this books was a huge disappointment. The focus was not on the child but rather on the mothers' imaginary world. The "Torgon parts" were long winded and totally over the top. Eventually I skipped past anything that was in italics which was a large part of the book. For the first time since I got my Kindle I was constantly watching the percentage read just wishing it was finished.

A. Story in a story
I've read all of Torey Haydens non fiction books and thoroughly enjoyed them, but once I got into this I could not put it down! It tells a story from several points of view about a messed up child and the events which led to it, but also throughout the story runs a second story, written by one of the characters in the main story. It is gripping reading although it took me a couple of chapters to get into it, and has left me with chills running down my spine. I would recommend this book to people who have enjoyed her other work but also to people requiring a book about family relationships and how one event can affect so many people in so many ways.I would give it 5 stars were it not so slow to get into. It took me almost a week to read the first few chapters then I read the rest of the book in just one day!

Disappointing
I desperately wanted to like this novel by one of my favourite writers. I have read and loved her real life renditions of children she has taught. But sadly this book does not compare at all. I was either bored to tears or embarrassed for Ms. Hayden. It's so amateurish. I ended up speed reading and then skipping huge sections (those in italics) because the whole thing was too far fetched. The only reason I gave 2 🌟s is because I liked Conor and his cats.

What is reality.
I have read all her books and this one is kind of weird, kind of strange. Is there a simple explanation? Superb ending

As a first novel I wasn't sure!
Used as I have been to reading Tory Hayden's other books about her own experiences as a teacher/counsellor, I found her first novel a bit more challenging. At times I found the basic plotline difficult to follow but the book was gripping never-the-less. I stuck at it to the end and was glad I did as the picture became clearer and made sense then.A good enough read but I prefer her more autobiographical style.
