Why does this have so much recoil?!

There is no recoil on this gun.

Is this good for cornerbead?

Corner bead is typically made of metal and therefore likely too thick for a staple to penetrate. It has not been tested on paper versions of corner bead.

Is this stapler suitable for upholstery?

I'm not sure. I have never done upholstery. If you are asking if it is powerful enough to drive a staple then yes. It is powerful but it is also hard to squeeze so a lot of repetitive shots might become difficult due to hand fatigue.
