As what I expected.
The SSD speed is about 340MB/s on M1 MacBook Air. It is acceptable and similar to my other usb SATA ssd(s). The benefit is that I don't have to plug and unplug my external drive any more when I have to put my mba into my backpack and I can move my photo library and other fat APPs to external drive without worry the external ssd connection problem. It also produce less heat than a common 7 in 1 hub.

wanted to love–but its a dud.
REALLY wanted to make this work and love it - but it's a total dud on so many levels.1) It drains the battery in about an hour, just sitting, unused. I have been in multiple situations where I have a full battery and have gone on a trip and go to work and it's nearly dead.2) The connector portion is really unstable. Unless you are literally working on a completely flat surface (not me! I work in airports, cars, various tables, on my lap...all over the place) the HD will bend and come out very easily. This is horrible bc it kept stressing me out when the alert would pop up to say that "your HD has become disconnected". And not to mention it popped out multiple times...just is floppy and insecure at the connector point.3) SO BIG. I realize its a 480GB, but honestly...this is about 10 times the size that it should be. I can't use my laptop case which goes back to #2 in that when I travel with it, it is constantly popping out. - thus stressing me the heck out.4) Did I mention the price??? Outrageous the cost, unless it actually was made of gold and worked exactly as it should. So yeah, no.I wanted something really easy and portable to be able to free up my memory and space. This is not it. Back to the boring external HD that I carry with me everywhere...which is safer, at this point and I sleep better. At least until a better product comes along...

Must have for MacBook Pro M1 users
This is a really good investment for people who are buying the base model M1 MacBook pro. I use this for storing my videos I edit and pictures as well. Def a must have as it has a small form factor, is light weight and doesn't get too hot. Color is almost perfect for matching the space gray MacBook. Only complaint is that there is only two ports aside from the hdmi port. I'd like to see maybe an additional usbc and USB a on there. But overall, good investment.Update: this seems to have issues with any monitor over 32" in size. It's pretty stretched out and pixelated. For reference I have the 4K 49 inch monitor from Samsung crg90.

Bought one of these...
Was a lifesaver product, but broken after a year and was not able to get it repaired because that isn't the design of this or any market to feature a nice CTA for dysfunctional products, regardless of some surface level warranty. No refund, no repair. Just a kick rocks kinda attitude... This was one of the most expensive products we have ever bought to ease our issues with the Mac Peripherals, and it honestly just put a dent in our wallet and heart from Amazon, and the Seller's poor follow-through for customer support.Enjoy my money, thanks for nothing...

Great so far
Works great so far. Recommended for macbook pros that have 4 usb-c ports and not 2, because this takes up both ports and only leaves you with one usb port (besides the hdmi and lightning charging port). Overall it’s been working great on my MBP 16 inch and even better because it attaches directly to the macbook. Had a neo storage before that doesn’t attach directly to the macbook (it dangles on the side), and it was kind of annoying, but this feels more convenient. The added storage is perfect too. I can also charge my MBP through it while I work and have it connected to an external monitor. Everything is great so far & would recommend.

It matches and fits at least...
Fits great in and matches my MacBook. I’m really nervous about it getting bumped and getting ruined though. Not sure if it is fulfilling my purpose yet though. I bought it because I keep running out of disk memory.

The thing to buy if you need to expand your macbook pro storage
It works great. Expands the macbook pro storage, is fast, is small, looks ok enough, and provides the two most useful expansion ports (4k60hz HDMI and USB-A). I pretty much never take it off of my computer. I suppose it could be irritating if your work is highly mobile and you need to move your laptop constantly, it doesn't grip the side of the computer at all it just slots into the left two usb-c ports.

Must buy!
This was my best purchase by far! I thought I was going to have to purchase a new laptop. I kept running out of space and I don’t like the dongle type drives. It does get warm if I leave it on my bed for hours, but my laptop gets warm as well since there’s no air circulation. I hope they offer them with more drive space.
