From Dusk Till Dawn (2014) - Season 01

Eliza Gonzales does a fine job honoring Salma Hayek as Santanico
Stretches the movie into a ten hour series, adding all sorts of mythology and scares. Nobody can match George Clooney's malevolent charm, but DJ Cotrona holds his own in this version of Seth Gecko. Zane Holtz as Ritchi plays it a bit less manbaby crazy than Tarantino, but here the character is less batshit and more... well, you'll just have to watch. Eliza Gonzales does a fine job honoring Salma Hayek as Santanico, who this time is given a backstory that plays out well across this and the second season. Lots of blood, lots of quirks, but maybe a little less time hoping without establishing the time. The audience just has to pay attention; you're rewarded. Great turns from Jesse Garcia as a Texas Ranger hunting the Geckos and Wilmer Valderrama *yes, from that 70s show) as a villain. Totally nails it. Don Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and Jeff Faehy sneak in here too.

deep inside from dusk till dawn
I love the movie. I seen the movie a dozen times on the BiG screen. I had a feeling because of the times we live in they were gonna metro sexual the series up, take something raw n gritty and shine it up all hoity toity slick like and they did to some degree but they kept it gruff enuff and go deep behind what motivates all the characters and by the end of episode one I wanted to see what they were gonna reinvent next and what they were gonna do straight from the film. as I write this I've seen the first six episodes and I feel much like with the movie it's not really gonna start till they end up at the titty twister. the cast is likable, D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz do a really good job as the Gecko Brothers, and the story is a layer deeper than the movies storyline. so far I like it.

Nice Show
I don't have cable so I had to purchase this pilot since I am a HUGE Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino fan. The movie is one of my favorites and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that there was going to be a tv series version of From Dusk Til Dawn. Actually, I was surprised AND dying to know how they expected to pull this one off. While the main plot is still basically the same as the movie, the series expands upon the universe/mythology/etc. to tell a back story AND introduce new characters/twists. I liked the show, and am interested in seeing more BUT this is one of those shows I can wait to binge watch once the season is over.

Amazing!
We've been looking for a way to watch this since we read about it in People magazine. It airs on the El Rey network which isn't available in our area. THRILLED to find it on amazon. We bought the pilot episode and we were HOOKED. Hubby had seen the movies--I had not. It pleases BOTH of us. The Gecko brothers are both believable as professional thieves, and Richie (played by Zane Holtz) is simply brilliant as a troubled, vision-seeing, semi-sociopath. Every character is believable (with the exception of Jake Busey--who always seems to play a caricature). We binged all the available episodes in 3 days and would highly recommend it for fans of "thinking-man's-horror." (no mindless slashing) The stylized format of flashbacks is done seamlessly and provides ongoing surprises and fleshes out the characters. Try it--you'll like it!

Seriously Mixed Feelings
I have seriously mixed feelings about this series. For starters, I really enjoyed the original movie. In college, I would watch the movie after coming home from a night out as I drifted off to sleep and I never was bored with the movie. Quentin Tarantino is a master of dialogue and the original movie's dialogue is fantastic. And then, the series was made. I have watched all of the episodes at this point but almost did not make it past the first episode. I don't see how you can not let be down by this series if you have seen the original movie first. If, perhaps, this series existed and there was no original movie it might be ok but the series just does not do the original justice. Specifically, the series attempts to mimic the witty dialogue of the movie but really misses the mark. I'm not really sure if the actors failed to deliver the lines or if the writing failed the actors. I think, perhaps, the writing failed the actors. There are hints of of mimicry of the original witty dialogue but only hints. The dialogue is what really made the original movie stand out from other genre vampire movies. This series just fails in that respect and is another syfy esque vampire movie. While I was seriously disappointed but what I saw in the first episode, I decided to keep downloading the episodes probably because I enjoy Robert Patrick and I wanted to see how his character turned out. I must admit that the series gets better over time. The series pushes off from the original movie and it is ok, generally. Overall, if you enjoy vampire movies/shows then this is an ok watch (please realize that I am fairly forgiving with low budget movies, as well) but if you are hoping for another experience like the original movie I think you will be extremely disappointed. I recommend watching this series first if you have not seen the movie and maybe it will present better but if you watch the original movie first then this series is going to disappoint. It is just not as sharp, quick and witty. On its own it is really just an expanded retelling of a great vampire movie from the 1990s. With all that being said, I will still watch season two when it is available.

Good standalone show, inspired by the movie.
One of the greatest challenges of any show based on a movie is how true they are to the original but at the same time stand alone on its own. This show does both of these very well. There are a couple of scenes that are almost right out of the movie, but this time they've re-imagined them and focused on a different point of view. For example: Richard Geko (played by Quentin Tarantino in the movie and Zane Holtz in the show) is still a crazed sociopath. The show takes that in a slightly different direction: is he being influenced by others or is it all in his head? In the movie it was simply: kill, kill, kill. I'm only two episodes in, but so far I like the direction it's going in.

Just as good as the film.
I rarely give series 5 out of 5 stars but I had to make an exception for this. I am a massive fan of the original From Dusk Till Dawn so when I found out that they have started a series on it, I had to buy it. Be careful their are some spoilers here. This series is great as it really expands on the mythology of the Homo Nosferatu Vampiris. We learn a lot more about the Aztec temple that was seen in the ending of the original film and about the "Vampires" themselves. The series also has several differences with the film but I feel they are all good for the series. The main characters appear to be younger than they are in the film. The brothers contact Carlos is a vampire himself here and the black soldier veteran of the Vietnam War has already faced vampires before unlike in the film. People have said that the series is slow to start which I agree with but in that time we learn so much of the characters back stories and we learn more about the Homo Nosferatu Vampiris. I am eagerly awaiting the second season to be released on DVD.

SIT BACK AND RELAX? NOT A CHANCE!
Notorious criminals Seth and Richie Gecko are on the run after robbing a bank. Kidnapping en route a preacher and his family, they take refuge in a remote sleazy Mexican bar - unaware of the unspeakable horrors that await....The classic 1996 film has been expanded into a ten episode series, with other seasons to follow. The result is a gorefest with no pulling back on terrors unleashed. Addicts of the genre have taken it all in their stride, but I confess to finding it all a bit much - especially with confusing chronology and ever-increasing accumulation of blood-drenched twists and turns.Much though impressed, especially Robert Patrick as the preacher - wife dead and faith now seriously challenged. Admiration was great for Ranger Freddy Gonzales. From the start he had pledged to avenge the shooting of his mate - focus ever since on his dogged pursuit with life constantly under threat. Here was awesome dedication to duty, he deserving acclaim and rewards (should he survive).Generous bonuses include commentaries and sundry background information - main one to watch concerning how the series came about.Although ultimately everything became too extreme for me, there is no denying the makers have achieved most dramatically what they set out to do.
