Power Corruption and Lies Definitive Edition

Favorite Definitive Edition So Far!!
The DVDs are worth the price alone. The bonus cds are great. As is the LP which sounds warmer in some songs than the original. Be careful if the box set is packaged/shipped poorly there may be damage inside. Had a couple arrive damaged. Amazon did make it right!!

Great, comprehensive set.
I own most of this material in other pressings/releases, et al. The two live shows I had only had on bootleg VHS, so it was nice to have those. I've really enjoyed this series and the box looks very nice on my record shelf. My only gripe was Amazon shipped this with no outer box and it was dinged up when I got it.

Rather expensive box set
Not sure why this so high priced, but if you love the album you will like the content.Comes in a box, has a hardbound album size thin picture book, with a rather short but well written and objective text about the recordings at the time.Vinyl version of the original Power, Corruption, and Lies album, die cut sleeve imitating the original release. Sounds great but sounds different from the original. At first I thought I was imagining it.Two CDs. One of the original 8 song album. One of instrumental demos. The unreleased demos are not terribly essential but mildly interesting, no vocals at all, works in progress but easily recognizable. The NY demo of "Thieves Like Us" is the standout to me. There is a very early demo version of what was to become "Blue Monday" with completely different drumming by Steve. The demo CD does include the second Peel Session tracks, which is great stuff but long available elsewhere. This box set does NOT include the four official 12" singles from the era, "Blue Monday/ The Beach", "Confusion (4 mixes)", "Thieves Like Us/ Lonesome Tonight", and "Murder/ Thieves Like Us instrumental". There are 3 instrumental demo versions of "Blue Monday", but the actual original song is not included in the set.Two DVDs of video to watch from the 1982-84 era. Includes TV features/ appearances and live on stage videos. New Order was very unique at the time, which these videos document. Why do I complain that it may be overpriced? Only one vinyl disc for over $100. No unique vinyl content. They could have included the 12" vinyl singles in there but you can buy them separately, or could have at least included the iconic "Blue Monday" vinyl which was recorded at the same sessions as the album. None of the 12" singles put on CD either, so this box is not a comprehensive set of New Order's official output at the time. None of the rare 7" versions included in the set either.

Good LP Remaster - Poor Packaging
The remaster of the vinyl is good, really good, but not quite as good as my 36 year old Japanese pressing. With that being said the only real issue I had was with the packaging. The lp was out of the inner sleeve and left to destroy the bottom of the cover (seem split). One cd and one dvd were out of their sleeves just swimming around causing scratches. I sent it back to Amazon. I then ordered it off Importcds for 79. It arrived with no problems. The rest of the box set is nice. Book is heavy duty. The dvd's playback is excellent. I haven't listened to cd's yet, so I can't comment. But, I don't believe it could top my original uk cd from 86'.Overall it's a good box

Plastic Surgery Remastering
Listening to the new remastered mix of Power, Corruption, and Lies, is like meeting your beautiful wife after she has had botched plastic surgery. Yes, she's still your wife, but something is drastically wrong and she's just not the same! Gone are the wrinkles and the little things that made her special. This is not a remaster, but a re-imagining of the original album — a step backwards in my opinion. Why didn't the mastering engineer just keep the original as is, and remaster it, instead of trying to fix up little things here and there, destroying the beauty of the original in the process? There are spots where I don't recognize the original album, because they nicked and tucked it in ProTools and digitally cut things out of the mix that they didn't like.Case in point, in the original mix of the song "586", at 4:52, when Bernhard Sumner sings "Oh yes I heard you...Kheard you...Kheard you...Kheard you calling..." you can hear a sharp "K" sound each time he says "heard" because the tape wasn't spliced exactly on the money. I've always enjoyed that about this song, that it wasn't perfectly spliced. So what did they do in the remaster/reissue? They cut off the K...so now it's: "Oh yes I heard you...heard you...heard you...heard you calling...".In Your Silent Face, the melodica has been EQ'd in such a way that it doesn't sound like a melodica anymore. I went back and forth between the original and the remastered version, and they subtly changed it so that it doesn't sound as good anymore.I could go on and on but eventually I just pressed eject and stopped listening. Overall, the mix is punchier, with more bass, but it's a completely new cleaned up version of the original album. In an attempt to fix all the little mistakes they ended up cutting out all of the little things that made the original so special. In addition, I just read that people are having issues with the vinyl:"Played the LP from the box set today, it plays fine but there are some strange up-and-down vibrations coming from the cartridge with every spin. Played with my Technics SL-1210 MK2 with Ortofon Concorde cartridge + 30 stylus. I would assume this LP would likely cause skips and jumps when playing in some turntables. I wonder if my LP is faulty or whether the whole batch is. Even though the record plays, this can’t be too healthy for the stylus. A replacement might be in order but first I wonder what other people’s experience is with this LP.""Vinyl is defective, Age of Consent full of skips and pops; you can see the surface irregularities when the LP spins."Very disappointed with this release! I went back to listening to the older mix, and just turning up the bass.

Like Definitive Movement, a must for New Order fans
Along with the definitive Movement box, this is beautifully packaged with some interesting 'extra' content. The vinyl sounds great. For me, much of the more recent remastered, repackaged vinyl is poor quality. This is an exception. Nice detail and separation of sound with a minimum of surface noise.I was drawn to the DVD content, particularly the Kilkenny show from 1983. As a new fan in 1982 this was the first time I heard the band live - by means of recording the gig from Radio 1. Like my MW recording, the DVD is far from perfect (single view, occasional loss of focus and sound), but it transfixed me. It represents the band hitting their stride live and, at the intimate Rosehill hotel at least, having a good time. Utterly brilliant. If you're a fan, do your best to get this.

Wonderful Boxset
Beautiful looking set of a brilliant album. The highlight for me are the 2 DVDs stuffed with typical early 80s NO performances which veer from shambolic to genius in the space of about 2 minutes! Can't wait for Low Life!
