A great way to integrate physical computing into the classroom that appeals to all
This is my new favourite programming toy! After seeing it modelled online and at the Bett Show, it was a must-purchase situation! It appeals to all ages and I have used it with my 4 year old Reception children up to my Year 6 Digital leaders. I love the multiple ways you can program the train, from the physical tiles, to the app and by using Scratch. It is multi-functional and exciting for big and little people! Love that it is also compatible with wooden sets although it struggles with wooden bridges as the angle can be quite steep. Looking to buy more accessories now to expand the set and explore more of the coding challenges within the app.

15th birthday present
Really is fun for all ages. The action clips make it interesting for hours. Sturdy and easy to assemble. Would recommend!

Clickety-clack as the train goes over the track
This toy is excellent and well worth buying. The app is a great little feature that helps to engage screen-hungry little ones for instance, and with the adapter kit you can make it work with your wooden track. There's actually a satisfying little sound as it goes over the wooden joins.

First generation of a great toy.
First of all this is a great toy, 8 year old loves it, it's a bit much for my 5 year old but he can put the pieces together and make it go faster and slower. There are issues - it very much feels like it's been made by a tech company and not a toy company. The plastic track pieces are thin and are a bit awkward to click together/apart. These pieces could have been wood or thicker plastic and be directly compatible with Brio etc.The command pieces in the box are quite limited. The train can play sounds, and change the colour of the lights but none of the default pieces can do that. You can 'program' the magenta pieces to do that with a phone or tablet, but a piece that could play a sound or toggle the lights would make it more interesting out of the box.Programming the magenta pieces is annoying because as far as I can see you can only make them do 1 thing, most of which are covered in the default pieces. It would be nice to make them do 3 things say; wait 5 seconds, play a sound, turn the lights etc.The phone/tablet app is good, and really essential to getting the most from the train. On the intelino website there are activity sheets to print out which are worth getting.Micro usb for charging is not child friendly. I hope later versions can squeeze in wireless charging.

Not compatible with Brio!!!
Watch out if you expect to use this with your current wooden track. Doesn’t connect to Brio wooden track. The Intelino train will run on wooden track but the track connectors are different. Nothing on Amazon currently for connecting these.

All aboard the Intelino STEM Centre Express
I'll be completely honest, I haven't bought the set of Intelino Smart Trains that I am using to teach Computing with at the Primary School I work for - but they are absolutely brilliant! Used with supervision because of the small parts, the locomotives colour sensor capability means that it is possible to learn about coding or programming with real world application of creating what can build up to be a very sophisticated train signalling system straight out of the box. The fact that the system is compatible with the most popular wooden toy train tracks and rolling stock is just absolutely wonderful. But as if that wasn't enough, the verstaility with which schools can put Intelino to use not just for teaching Computer Programming but for teaching some elements of the Physics curriculum too and to an advanced (GCSE level) at that makes the Intelino well worth the investment.

Toy train on another level..
I bought the J-1 train set for my son who LOVES trains and as such, he has dozens of toys that are of course... Trains. He is 5 and autism and he finds this set particularly interesting. This is not just another toy train, you can turn it on and set up within 5 minutes but the fun hardly starts until you play with the colored tiles, each of which triggers something to happen. There are so many configurations and more than enough to keep kids thinking. Very good for the senses and if you don't want to play with the tiles at all, go ahead and download the App to control even more. All in all it is possible to control the train's speed, stop, reverse, color of the train LED lights, sounf effects and more.Pros-Easy to set up and use.Numerous configurations.Applies to a very large age group.Helps to learn pattern recognition.Cons-I really don't have one bad thing.

Easy to use, fun family play
My 2 and 6 YO LO’s love this train. My 6YO loves Using the colored tiles to make different actions as well as using to App. My 2YO uses the train without the tiles but still enjoys playing with it! Also being able to buy extra track Pieces was nice to be able to make more track shapes.

Highly exciting for those train obsessed
I got this $50 cheaper off amazon than priced at best buy. Great little toy for those train enthusiasts. Unlike most train toys with batteries, you don't just make a circle track and watch it go around and around. This one uses coding and your smart phone to operate. Very interactive!
