A Lengthy Tome Worth the Slog
Gibbon's classic is best read in its totality. It is history at its best, revealing how civilization evolved. It was a very bumpy ride indeed. In volume 3, the concentration of wealth before Rome fell to the Goths was a big factor in the populace not mounting much of a defence for example. Perhaps we too could learn from our ancestors.

wow
By far the best, or at least the most exciting volume of the History. I am so glad to have finally read these.

Loved it. Classic
Takes patience to read, but the rolling, majestic cadence is what Gibbon is famous for. Analytical, broad in scope, and beautifully written.

A SURPRISINGLY EASY READ
How can you say anything bad about this classic? A surprisingly easy read.

If you like history
This is a vade mecum of roman history, even more considering that it’s over 300 years old. I recommend it.

Review The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire Volume 3
I like authors who, when they write their stories, manage to do so in such a detailed way that it makes it easy for me to mentally picture what I read. In this novel, from the first pages I saw myself catapulted into a film, one of those that have always kept me glued to the screen without ever diverting my attention. It's the same effect this story had on me. Lots of action, many well-described characters, adrenaline-filled situations, a dose of mystery with very interesting historical references. Accurate and fluid writing.

Books for research. Very concise and user friendly Kindle edition
This is a very concise History of the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. Everything you need to know are in these books. To be honest, I browsed through the editions, and found some interesting snippets. Not books I will tend to read from front to back over a weekend... reference books.
