Hulk, Vol. 3: Hulk No More

I don't know why but I really like this book.
This is a totally mindless action comic which has been getting trashed in all reviews. I must say that I kind of like it and have enjoyed this Red Hulk a lot. Loeb has certainly not been putting out anything of substance in a while but I enjoy this book and can read through it in 30 min.

Best Hulk Battles Ever! A True Modern Classic!
Joe Loeb shows us you can't go home again in this epic story. Hulk is given the choice of bringing back Jarella, his long dead love. Epic battles and lots of drama result as Hulk learns a powerful lesson. We get to see the classic Defenders vs. ........get this.....The Offenders! Lots of fantastic art and story that will keep you glued to your seat. Prepare yourself True Believers for one of the best Hulk tales yet! Good art but not much else
I should have listened to the other reviewers, but somehow or other the 12 year old in me couldn't resist. The artwork is pretty good -- but not outstanding like in Hulk, Vol. 2: Red & Green ( Frank Cho -- I love you ) -- the reproduced covers in the Extras section by Ed McGuinness are great, but there wasn't much of a story to the "Love and Death" three-parter. You knew what was going to happen -- it was like a staged WWF event. I did appreciate the references to old Hulk/Sub Mariner/Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange issues ( Jarella/Dorma/Shalla Bal and Clea ) which I remember reading in the 70s, but at the finish, after some good smack downs ( containing some highly improbable events ) you knew how it was going to end.The second story line with Ben Urich and a Watergate type incident was more interesting but really of very little import. Just a teaser for things to come.Buy it if you enjoy McGuinness' muscled out, meaner than mean Red Hulk/Hulk ( and I do -- so the 12 year old in me is pleased ) but don't expect much in terms of a story. It's like eating an entire family-sized bagful of your favorite potato chips in one sitting, you know you should stop but can't and you feel disgusted with yourself afterwards.

Straight Crap
It's unbelievable how lame this story is. I was going to go into detail on what makes it crap, but I'll keep it short. In #11 Rulk stops Hulk in a way that well-read Hulk fans know is impossible [see #398 (1992) or #103 (2007)]. In #13 Rulk stops Hulk in another way well-read Hulk fans know is also impossible [see #123 (1970) for a far better attempt that still failed)]. There are MANY more instances than these, but they came to mind first.Jeph Loeb seems to want Hulk gone so badly that he has no regard for how sloppily it's accomplished. Perhaps the same could be argued about the defeat of Hulk in World War Hulk, which was quite ridiculous and pitiful. There is one thing I do like about this book. In #12 Rulk's ego is smashed by a contemptuous Galactus. That's a real prize, because Rulk is an absolute toilet. I will say this about the character: he shows us how dangerous Hulk would be if he really were a monster.I consider this worth reading, but do not waste your money on its purchase unless you're a Hulk collector.

Horrible
The cover was damaged and the book was written with crayon and pages were folded.

Kicking into Life
This third volume from the series whilst not hugely impressive is better than the previous two. Admittedly the first part of the book doesn't move the story on at all over than the last few sentences. However, I still enjoyed it though. The first two volumes were such a disappointment that this one could hardly have got any worse, and so it proved. The second part of this story was also rather enjoyable. As mentioned by one of the previous reviewers, the story just doesn't seem to flow. Unless you knew better you could be forgiven for thinking that the two parts of the story don't happen one after the other. Surely Loeb never used to have this happen? It almost feels like this is a new style of writing for him.Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and the overall story arc is beginning to improve.

Hulk vs. a load of esoteric characters
Collects Hulk #10-13 and the 40th Anniversary issue of Incredible Hulk #600, written by Jeph Loeb with art by Ed McGuiness. The Elder & his brother the Collector decide to have an ultimate vs. match; Hulk is captain and gets to call his squad. Rulk is captain of the other; naturally they all choose some pretty powerful guys as their team, the only catch is that the Elders get to choose WHEN the guys are from. Resultantly, the Surfer hasn't met the Hulk yet etc etc. Big showdown - multi-dimensional fist fight. A lot of deaths and then the Elders satisfied with their experiment revive everyone and wipe everyone's memory. So it's basically a What-if?The 40th Anniversary edition sees Rulk drain Hulk of his powers, are they gone for good? Time will tell...
