Really good product!
I purchased a set of beautiful couches that smelled like curry. The smell was really strong and remained even after I hired a steam cleaning company to clean the couches. After using various kinds of spray odor remover without results, I decided to do a little research. After a little bit of googling I found the room shocker and I ordered it right away. When it arrived I removed my pets, my fish, and my child from my home for about 24 hours and left the room shocker to work with all the blinds closed to keep the sunlight away. The temperature in my house was about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. When we returned home after about a day it just smelled like a pool, the curry smell is completely gone. Even when I pressed my face into the couch cushion to really check if there was a little hint of smell, all I smelled was slight chlorine scent. The room shocker completely eliminated every bit of smell in my apartment and from the couches. This was about 3 years ago or maybe even longer, and the curry smell has never come back. I have some other odor problems at the moment (old books) and decided to order room shocker again. I am completely surprised at all the negative reviews. I think that some people might not have luck because they are not using enough of the room shocker or they are not doing it in a warm enough environment with the sunlight blocked out. This product works due to simple chemistry and if you do it right, it will work. It is important to remember that no amount of odor remover of any kind will kill off the stink of live bacteria or mold. If you have a problem with dead rodents or roaches, this may only work temporarily or not at all, but not because it's a bad product, but because of the source of the odor.

Works... sort of.
As others have noted, a critical ingredient to success is getting rid of the source of the smell.I bought a Room Shocker to get rid of a persistent musty odor in our 90 year old home. We "Shocked" the house overnight, and came back 18 hours later to find the musty odor gone, replaced by a faint bleachy smell. It took about a week for the bleachy smell to dissapate, but now, about a month later, the musty odor has returned. My totally unscientific conclusion is that the Shocker works, but only if you get rid of whatever is causing the smell in the first place.

Really did get rid of skunk smell
My dog got skunked, and before I knew it she ran into the house, thereby contaminating everything she came into contact with. We quickly put her in the bathtub and proceeded to do what we could. It was absolutely awful. The stench was so overpowering. The whole house stank for days, but the bathroom was beyond intolerable; you could not set foot in it a week later.I've tried everything, but to no avail. Then I came across the Room Shocker.Hoping against hope, I deployed it as instructed. When I closed the door behind me, after activating it (by pouring water on the paper packet), I was startled to hear the loud noise of what sounded like gun fire. I was at first concerned that I did something wrong (the packet's content seemed gummed up, and not powdery as the instructions described). I took a quick peek (while holding my breath, as chlorine gas was being released), but did not see any flames or anything too alarming, so I closed the door, and after a few minutes the loud cracks subsided. After letting the room "simmer" for 24 hours, I ventilated it.Happily, the skunk smell was gone, to be replaced by an odor reminiscent of bleach, or some other strong cleanser; certainly better than the hellish stink.Thumbs up!!

It Works!!!
Living in the country can be pleasant until one of the critters of the land decides that where you live is also where he wants to live. Long story short ~ a skunk found a place under our manufactured home and left in its wake the ripe aroma of a skunk's presence. Fortunately, this critter did not spray at our home, but it most likely had sprayed while out for the evening and brought the wonderful skunk juice back on it's tail ~ consequently saturating everything we owned in the back of the house where the master bedroom is with an odor that was most certainly not going to go away on it's own!I found Room Shocker online and knew that it was at least worth a try. The price at $24.99 was not that bad, considering how much we had to spend at the local store on smelly products that left our nasal passages permeated with both skunk and perfumed sprays now! I paid for the expedited shipping - ordered on Monday and received on Wednesday! We couldn't wait to get it started and hoped for the best! After the 24 hours in the sealed bedroom and then another hour or so airing out the room, we entered with trepidation and wondered if it would still overpower us with the waft of skunk. Amazingly it was gone! But not only was it gone, but our mattress which was less than a year old and about $2000 no longer had the skunk smell! IT WAS GONE! EVERY BIT OF THE SMELL WAS GONE! WE WERE ABLE TO SLEEP IN OUR BEDROOM THAT NIGHT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN BOTHERED WITH THAT SMELL AGAIN! IT WORKS!!!That was the first of February and here 5 weeks later we are still skunk smell free!

It worked!
Worked great on my rental property. The last tenant had dogs that peed all over. My tenant had cleaned the carpet with her own steam cleaner. So I didn't smell anything until I had a professional come in and clean. Once the carpets got wet again the smell was quite strong. We deep cleaned the carpet and when it dried there still was lingering smell. I used 3 shockers in a 1300sq ft. The new tenants have never complained.

Didn't Work As Expected
I live in a small apartment however I don't know the square footage and realize that 1 container of Room Shocker is supposed to treat a maximum of 400 sq. ft. I decided to leave it the maximum of 24 hours and when I returned there was no difference at all. Since I'm not able to close off my upstairs from downstairs, this may have been part of the problem. I had skunk spray I was trying to remove and unfortunately even though I set off the Room Shocker 4 feet from the source of the smell it didn't have any effect in eliminating or even reducing the odor. Would not recommend or purchase again.
