The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing the Ukulele

I purchased “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Playing the Ukulele” for my husband Bill. Following is Bill’s review he asked me to place. “I did a lot of on-line searching and went to my library which has about 6 different ukulele for beginner books. I reviewed them all. David Hodge’s The COMPLETE IDIOT’S GUIDE to Playing the Ukulele was perfect for me. David Hodge’s style of writing was written for somebody like me who has zero music background. The great thing is the Guide is comprehensive but more importantly I liked how he made it so easy to understand and be able to do what he’s describing. I went into David Hodge’s site and retrieved the sound tracks to accompany the Guide’s chapters.

I found this book to be an invaluable resource in learning to play my ukulele. The information is presented in an easy to understand way for the beginner while always offering ways to improve and expand your skills. I am still a beginner and this is my go-to book for daily practice and learning new skills.This book is an invaluable companion while learning, improving and exploring ukulele strumming, picking and playing techniques!

Very well done except when it comers to listening to tracks on a CD that was not included. What's the deal? Perhaps there is a digital link? I feel like I paid full price for half the product.

My 5 stars are for the book (I'd give the CD about 3.5 because of the singing). At any rate, this is a very instructive book and the ukulele playing on the CD is very helpful to me as I cannot read music. I have learned a lot from the book/CD combo, including the great Tum Balalaika song, and some fancy little rifts. As stated before, I do not like the singing voice on the CD... it has me cringing. But the ukulele playing, which is what matters, is quite instructive.

A thorough book for the newbie uke player as well as someone looking to expand their abilities at playing other than strums. Understandable lessons and helpful CD to guide in playing the exercises. Highly recommend.

Good beginner/intermediate book. My husband uses it almost daily.

This is a great all-around book for the beginner. It has everything you need from basic 'how to's' to a nice selection of songs, to learn to play, to a CD to help as well.

I had checked this out from the library and liked it. Just got into uke a couple of months ago. Love it, and this book is good.

Brilliant. Just as ordered thank you

A well-written definitive guide to mastering the ukulele, which emphasises the need to practice, practice, practice. The accompanying CD is most useful as it effectively emulates a personal tutor. A highly detailed, serious tutoring book with plenty of exercises.

So far, I enjoy the method. I think it is honest and realistic, and clearly written by a teacher with experience in teaching.

Once you get past the title, the detail is very comprehensive

I like this book. Contains everything you kneed to start with playing ukulele. Great guide.
