Protect yourself and your coffee!
I am taking a huge risk writing this review, especially on an unsecured connection, but my fellow caffeiners must know. This coffee will change your life, but do not let the government find out that you have access to such a powerful item. There is a reason this is called Banned coffee. I have gone to extreme lengths to keep my coffee hidden from the authorities. I am always sure to make my Banned coffee in a French press (or other purely mechanical coffee maker) to keep from alerting the government through all the CIA controlled drip coffee makers. Not only is the flavor fantastic on this blend, but you will become the most productive version of yourself and this effect only grows with each cup. An example of this productivity came when it was time for my fiancé and I to move. Two friends came over the morning of our move, only to find that we had not started packing yet. Long story short, made everyone a large cup of the glorious Banned coffee and we got to work. The move was finished in 3 hours flat (including unpacking at the new place). Mind you, this was a two bedroom apartment with a garage moving more than half way across the country.Just a couple last things to keep in mind; don't use CIA monitored coffee makers, and if made too strongly you may start hearing colors and catch glimpses of alternate dimensions.Good luck with your Banned coffee, I can hear them coming now and I must hide!tl;drBest stuff you can have for an energy boost without having to meet some shady guy in a dark alley.

Excellent for ice brew.
Stupidly, I ordered this pre-ground. I treated myself to an SCCA approved drip system, a nice grinder, a nice espresso machine, so my hopes and expectations were pretty low for this coffee. This was all at fault of my own. But not wanting to waste my investment, I decided to crack it open and brew some up. I used 15g of grounds per 8 oz of spring water. I let the gounds bloom in 200F water for about 20 seconds. I took this mixture and poured over ice. Assuming I brew 16oz, this typically yields 28oz once you factor in you're pouring over ice. While I'm not a coffee connoisseur and cannot pick out the individual flavors, it was one of the better coffees that I have used for the iced brew method. It was smooth, on the low acidic side, with more than enough flavor to let you know this isn't your DD or generic iced coffee. I honestly can't wait to order some whole bean to coarse grind and try it french press and cold brewed. If I were to drink it hot, I'd cut down to about 10g of grounds per 8 oz of water because the iced brew came out very strong. I will definitely be buying again.

Whoa
I bought this as a birthday present for myself and brewed a pot about an hour ago. Now, instead of working and writing code like I should be, I am here on Amazon trying to write a review and jittering like I'm about to have a cerebrovascular-accident.Anywhoo...the flavor: It's a terrific, dark, French Roast flavor with a good balance of bitterness. If it didn't have a kitschy name, it could easily be sold as a gourmet roast. In fact, the flavor beats the pants off of Death Wish--and unlike Death Wish (with its slightly, landfill overtone) this stuff tastes so good you could find yourself drinking a whole pot of it before you medically realize what you've done. This brings me to the next point: Normally, I have an unhealthy tolerance for cow-killing coffee built caused by years of drinking percolated chow-hall swill packaged for prison and military use. _THIS STUFF_ however, is a kick in the face that will make your teeth itch. If thats your thing, I couldn't recommend this more for you and maybe your sister's bratty kids.Enjoy.Brew method--> This French Press LINKYO French Coffee Press - 18/10 Stainless Steel Coffee Maker 34oz, 1L

Solid cold brew. Strong kick. Taste vs Death Wish is another matter...
I only batch cold brew as it's easier on my stomach. No complaints on the brew and gives a much stronger kick (for me) than Death Wish (which I have been using exclusively and have been very satisfied). Taste wise, I probably prefer Death Wish though keep in mind that taste is an individual choice. Both make solid brews. 4-star as I still prefer the ground on demand I get from my brick & mortar gourmet (non-chain!) coffee haunt. But getting delivery from Amazon has it's advantages too and this is a solid choice.UPDATED: June 24, 2020- Coffee sold here is often old stock. This is an ongoing problem. I buy on average 2-bags per month. Sometimes fresh but too often not.

Let's talk about this Coffee, shall we?
My boyfriend and I are currently on a "try all the highly caffeinated coffees!" adventure and of course Banned came up on that search. We both enjoy one 12oz cup of a coffee a day normally - so finding one with more bang for our buck seemed like a great idea. His response to the first cup - I can run a marathon - slight crash near the end of the dayMy response - shaking within 4 hours of drinking - and more "woke" than the current generation.Basically - AWESOME coffee, great taste, lots of caffeine which is wonderful. If you are someone who does not have a lot of caffeine in their life like me - I would recommend eating something while drinking it as it seems to help me. If you a caffeine junkie - then buy the bag - brew a cup - and hear colors.

Pleasant but undistinguished flavor, earthy-mulch aroma to grounds, good caffeine jolt for a wake-up brew
The coffee itself has a strong caffeine jolt, but the flavor is nothing special. The aroma is a bit earthy, like mulch, but not unpleasant. The flavor is better than the aroma, a bit dark but not bitter. It's good enough to drink as a wake-up beverage but undistinguished. It tastes better than most commonly available "French roasts", including Gevalia, but not as good tasting as ordinary Columbian, Guatemalan, Costa Rican and other commonly available brews. Still, I'd rather drink this than any "energy drink" for a pick-me-up.
