Disappointing second effort
I loved the first entry but stopped this one half way through. No FBI agent would partner with a reporter behind everyone's back, no one would go out without backup. No one who sends to be the ultimate Target of the serial killer would be allowed to take such an active role in the fieldBeyond that, the plot used a kind of Crypto cipher that was completely resistant to human cracking. It took the invention of the computer to defeat it, yet the agent's sister, who is"good with crossword puzzles" does it faster than the pros with computers at NSA. That's when I quit.

Fabulous Novel about FBI K-9's and their Partners
I love this series so far! The suspense begins from the first chapter and builds throughout the novel. I enjoy learning more about working K-9's, in this case, several FBI agents and their K-9 partners. I also enjoy reading about codes and ciphers, even though I don't have the genius to figure them out as Meg's sister, Cara, can. The characters are complex and the mystery intriguing, especially as Meg is forced to choose between FBI standards and using an alternate code translator to find the abducted people before it is too late.Special Agent Meg Jennings and her partner, Hawk, go with the team to find a woman who was abducted and a note, addressed to Meg, was attached to the woman's service dog with a riddle of where to find her. It isn't a standard note; it is written in cipher and the location is not readily apparent as it makes references to a local historical place, and it is up to the FBI to translate the note and determine the location referred to before the team can look for the woman. The first woman is found already dead, the second barely clinging to life and in a coma. It is frustrating to Meg to not be able to locate those abducted on time, and she plans to work outside the box. At least, until her supervisor finds out. She doesn't have any way to predict who is kidnapped next except it is clear that she and her sister are in the sights of a madman. Both of the women found so far resemble Meg and her sister very closely.Meg is defined very well, and we learn more about her sister and family in this novel. Both are hard working and dedicated, both are intelligent young women. I enjoyed seeing the Washington Post investigative reporter, Clay, again, as well as Todd, the fireman she met during her last big case.Wow, what an intense novel! I enjoyed every minute of it, seeing how each person contributes to find the missing women, how human and K-9 work together, and just how detailed and complex the mystery is. I was very impressed with how Meg finally figures out who the bad guy is, as it is not someone part of her current daily life. In fact. she had little memory of him. I enjoyed how real historical sites are used as the team goes through a historically rich setting, primarily in Virginia, that helps bring to life this well-written novel. Finding the bad guy on time is essential, and the ending sends shockwaves in the Jennings family and the K-9 unit at the FBI. If one appreciates mysteries that include K-9 partners, complex characters, and are written well, I highly recommend it!I received a copy of this from the author on behalf of the publisher, and this is my honest review.

More, please
This second book in the FBI K-9 series takes serial killer to a whole different level. FBI agent Meg Jennings appears to be targeted by someone wanting her to die -- "over and over again." Women with looks similar to Meg's are being kidnapped and left to be rescued (hopefully before they die) by Meg and the FBI K-9 team. Ms. Driscoll ups the tension as one woman after another is kidnapped. Fast-paced action, detailed description of SAR procedures and a twist on a standard plot trope had me reading as furiously as the action. A light touch of romance added a nice touch without diminishing the seriousness of the story.

Definitely a Top 10 Suspense Thriller!
I bought this book because I enjoy reading K9 related suspense books. I didn't have very high expectations because I have had a hard time getting into the last couple I have read. I was totally sucked into this book from the second I picked it up. This is undoubtedly the very best suspense book I have ever read--hands down. It is fast paced and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat the entire time. The main character, Meg Jennings is a canine handler in the FBI Forensic Canine Unit, who has unfortunately drawn the eye of a serial killer who targets women who look like her in order to recreate killing her over and over. The killer sends cryptic messages addressed to Meg that have to be decoded before she and the rest of her team race the clock to save the victims. There is also a historical twist because the killer chooses his locations based on civil war history and this book starts each chapter with a bit of historical trivia about civil war related practices. This novel is perfect for fans of shows like Criminal Minds and CSI. Dog lovers and Civil war history buffs who enjoy suspense would also love this book. This is a definitely a must have for the suspense lover's bookshelf!

Read, but don't think...
This is an entertaining read, as long as you don't think about it too much. There are plot holes that should have been recognized and addressed in writing, and mistakes that could have been fixed with some very basic research (calling the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier an "officer," for example). Nor would a law enforcement K9 team operate as described. Otherwise, there's little action, and no surprises, but l liked the cast of characters. Undecided if l will read more by this author.

The gangs all here
The message is for Meg, but it takes the whole crew, even those outside the FBI to solve the riddles. This story has Meg and Hawk, plus the rest of her unit and family running full pace to save these look alike women. There is a great blend of intrigue and action with a dash of romance. This story three in some civil war history and rebel action in terms of following orders. Compared to book one we got to know more of the higher up FBI profilers and Peters which was entertaining. I enjoyed the book and can’t wait to see what her next case is as well as how Hawk and McCord work out with the sisters.

Suspenseful FIB K-9 tale
Fantastic! Suspenseful, romantic and filled with beautiful dogs. Do I wish my 2 dogs were like Hawk? You bet, but they are not working dogs, however they have the same sense of loyalty andlove. Enjoy this book to the max!

great suspense read!
Love this author! a great read. grabs you early, kept me engaged. Being a dog-trainer myself I love that a "main character" is a working dog. And kudos to the author (a trainer themselves I understand) for authentically sharing the role of a working dog in an entertaining way!
