3-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen

I own a Tempurpedic mattress, which is my bed at home. I also own the  Sleep Better 2-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen , which I used on top of an  Aerobed 18in Raised Queen Premium Guest Bed, Queen  and slept on 4 nights per week for a few months to save commuting to San Francisco. I now also own the  Sleep Better 3-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen , which I'm using atop a friend's regular mattress that's otherwise like sleeping on a slab of granite.First off, the foam for the Sleep Better mattress toppers is not the same as the brand name Tempurpedic foam. The Tempurpedic foam is significantly more dense, meaning: 1) it takes a bit longer to respond to your weight / body heat; 2) it gives you significantly more support; and 3) it takes a bit longer to recover when you move.I actually slightly prefer the 2" topper on the Aerobed to my $1200 Tempurpedic mattress [boy, do I hate to say that!]. The 3" topper on the granite-like mattress is good, but is my least favored combination.The 3" topper is too soft and too thick. I sink so deeply into it that it's actually some effort to roll over at night. I got used to it after a few nights, and no longer wake up to roll, but I found it annoying. It's certainly not a bad experience. If I hadn't tried the other 2 options, and was only comparing it to sleeping on the granite mattress from h*ll, I would've been thrilled with it. But knowing what the other options are like, it's my least favored of 3 good choices.The Tempurpedic is a fantastic mattress, and I'll certainly keep it as my primary bed. My only niggling complaint is that, being temperature sensitive, my sleeping experience is different in summer vs. winter. In the hottest month of summer, the mattress is just a bit too soft, and my back isn't optimally supported. In the coldest month of winter, the mattress is a bit too hard. It does soften up after I've been in it for a few minutes, but it's noticeable when you first get in it.I really like the combination of the Aerobed and the 2" topper. The Aerobed let me adjust the overall firmness of the mattress and provided all the support. But the tufting of the Aerobed results in deep divots in the surface, which are not comfortable. The 2" topper smoothed out the divots and provided excellent cushioning, without being so deep that I sunk into it and lost the mattress's support.The brand name Tempurpedic products are definitely superior to all competitors I've tried, so if you can afford them, go for it. If not, the Sleep Better products are good options. I recommend the 2" topper over 3". It's more comfortable, cheaper, and your sheets fit more easily.

This mattress topper is wonderful! We put it on a bed that had a not so comfortable new mattress and it completely transformed the sleeping experience. I totally recommend this for your bed.

Caveat: I purchased this topper to go on top of a sleep number bed, so my experience is going to be different from yours if you're in a regular bed. I don't think it would have lasted me this long on a regular mattress.Sleep number beds make it nice to be able to change firmness, but their top is ultimately very uncomfortable (even though it's pillow top). I bought this memory foam topper to make it comfortable and it has so done the job! It's been showing signs of its wear for about the last year or so. I sit on my bed a lot and there's definitely a depression where I sit and where I sleep (which you can't see because I up the number to 100 when I get up). Because I can adjust the firmness of the mattress underneath it, I still get an okay sleep out of it, but it's past its useful life.1. Smell: Yeah, these all smell out of the box. It didn't bother me. I let it air out for a few hours, put a good mattress cover over it and never looked back. Odor was never an issue.2. Size: Yes, the sizes are a couple inches off in width and length. I bought a king size for a queen size bed. That made the length perfect and the width way too big. I simply cut off the excess on the side. It made some nice pillow cushions. I'm not sure I'd do that again. A couple inches in each direction doesn't make that much of a difference unless you sleep at the very edges.2. Discoloring and wear: Yes, it will discolor from light yellow, almost white to a darker yellow. That's age. It took a couple years to happen. It didn't change the performance and it's not hard and brittle. Again, keep it covered. It also has not cracked or split anywhere.3. Heat: I don't find this any hotter than a regular mattress and I'm pretty sensitive. I have issues at hotels that put a waterproof mattress cover underneath the sheets. I can feel it. It makes me sweat and is an uncomfortable sleep experience. This doesn't do that to me. Again, it might be the quality of the mattress pad I have covering it. BUY A DECENT MATTRESS COVER.4. Relief of pain: I've had back surgery and have bouts of injury or soreness to my back. While a lot of the relief I get has to do with being able to change the firmness of my bed, again, without this, that bed was just not comfortable. This topper has been a pain-saver.I rated this four stars because the density of the foam is 2.5 pounds. 4 would have made it a 5 star.

UPDATE Sept 2016--After a hot summer (Sacramento Valley) I can say this does make your bed warmer. I ended up just sleeping on top of the sheets and blankets with an extra sheet over my legs and chest. Topper still makes the bed more comfortable.Ships in a smallish box. You open, and it unrolls into the topper. Sort of like those blow-up mattress's, but this won't go down when you let the air out. It's never going back into that box if you need to return. You'll need to deal with Amazon to return. Does have a chemical smell. I left out for 48 hours. It didn't stink up the room. I only smelled it when I put on the sheets and the odor was trapped. The smell lasted about 4 more days. I find it gives noticeable support if you're a back sleeper, less support if you're a side sleeper. I didn't find that it held me in so I couldn't easily roll out of bed or turn over. Remember that this makes your bed 3" taller, so if you have sheets with short sides, they aren't going to fit any longer. Somehow that fact just slipped by me. The TV commercial where the people jump on the bed and the wine glass doesn't spill won't work with just a topper. It does reduce the feeling of other folks movement on the bed, but only about 25-35%. I still feel the cats as they groom and root around to find their bedtime spot. You probably won't feel them jump off the bed, however. Will have to give an update in 6 months to address the heat issue. Right now, with winter, holding heat in the bed is just fine.

Shipping was pretty fast and it did shape into what you see in the picture within an hour.It does feel soft only if you put it over "pillow top" kind of soft mattress.I only got this because my Pillow Top was sinking in the middle.so when I got this, I had to flip the bed and put this mattress on top.When I flipped the bed, it had hard surface so putting this topper on top made it nice and firm.It loses one star because like many have mentioned here, the size is definitely wrong. I ordered queen size but It is smaller by 2 inches.

This product is fantastic; we ended up with a comfortable bed and decent sleep without the hassle of changing the mattress. The price could have been better but with Amazon's Amazing Delivery speed it was worth it.

Sleep a little better with new mattress, notice less pain in the mornings and my hands are less likely to fall asleep......

This topper makes a firm bed really comfortable. It conforms to your body, without being too soft or squishy.

Only took about 3 hours to unfold and decompress, and the smell from gassing wasn't that bad, left it in a closed room with windows open for a day then used, takes body heat to mold in after awhile. I have had such amazing sleep since I got this product, plus I added some memory pillows
