Excellent knife for the price!!
So, I purchased this knife as kind of an everyday carry. I plan to take it hiking, fishing, hunting, beach.. you get the point. Having said that it is not meant to be used to chop wood or cut up an animal. I plan to keep it in an easy to reach place as a back up knife, and in case of emergencies. The knife fit well in my hands, but I do not have the biggest hands, it feels solid, the handle is hard plastic, not rubberized as I like, but the plastic will pbly last longer, and it is not slippery even when wet. The blade comes very sharp out of the box, and it is a full tang so should stand up well. The case is nice as well, the knife clicks into place well, I have been looking for a smallish knife for a while and came across many with little plastic sheaths that hold the knife in with friction, and they have very mixed reviews. This has a physical tab on the knife, and clicks positively into the sheath. There is a tab on both sides of the knife so you can put it in the sheath either way. It does not come with straps, but has a vertical slot to pass your belt through as well as the spaces on the side to strap it on your leg.Wearing it on my waste attached to my belt was uncomfortable because the handle stuck high up and kept sticking me in my belly. I found it most comfortable if worn sideways on your belt either in front just right or left of the buckle or at the back. Strapped to your thigh or ankle. Or on the strap of a backpack or hydration pack. One con I found, there is a plastic bar that screws onto the back of the sheath to create the space to pass your belt, the plastic is a bit thin as I saw others say. But I honestly do not see it just breaking off. If it does, it is screwed on so it should not be too hard to invent something.

Good little knife (care tips in review)
This knife arrived quite sharp, and looks of decent quality. Came with specific instructions as to care. Small but sturdy, I think it'll do the job. The sheath has a nice button action which seems secure. If this opinion changes once I get a chance to dive with it, I'll update.Update August 2022: knife is doing fine. I’m seeing a little rust at the tang but I think that’s to be expected. What has happened is that the sheath has broken at the lock. I’d like to buy a replacement and will be trying to contact the seller.Update May 2023: never did get reply from seller but knife sheath has continued to work. Whatever. What is new is that I discovered that you can take a small screwdriver and pry the small black fittings in the handle. Once out, the handle slides off and you can thoroughly clean and remove rust from the tang. Sometimes things are intelligently designed…

Great knife not so great sheath
I love this knife because it is great for spear fishing. I wear it on my weight belt and use it for dispatching my fish. Perfect design for this purpose and it cleans fish rather effortlessly with the serrated side. My only issue is the plastic sheath locking device cracks and the knife will fall out. I’ve lost 2 and would have lost the third had I not lanyarded to myself. Redesign the sheath for the final star.

This is a great knife for the money
This is a great knife for the money. It came sharp right out of the box. The handle is made so that it is ambidextrous. The sheath seems sturdy. Here's what I did. I carry this knife while I'm at the beach snorkeling. I don't really have anything to affix it to, so I ditched the sheath and made a slimmer one out of kydex. Since I was ditching the stock sheath, the little nubs on the grip of the knife that lock it into the sheath could be removed. While I was removing the retention nubs, I reprofiled the grip to fit my hand a little better. I've got big hands. Once I was done, I used a checkering file to add a little jimping for more grippiness. Then I used some 150 and 220 sandpaper to smooth it all out and blend the grinding.Once I was done this $20 knife felt like a $50 knife.Totally worth it.

Crucial Piece of Spearfishing Gear.
I have purchased 3 of these knives for myself and family and they love them. My first dive knife was a McNett and that design works perfectly for me. This knife is the exact same design and I believe the same type of steel the only difference being the sheath has a little butting you can press to take your knife out while the McNett is purely a friction hold. When I look for a dive knife I want it compact because I wear my knife on my forearm, A strong tip that can stand up to finishing off your fish, and a blade that can keep an edge so you can clean your fish. I don’t want those big cool looking knives and while you can get away with using those thin stilleto type dive knives, they are usually very expensive and there’s a fear of snapping the blade while braining your fish. This knife is nice and compact, there is plenty of “ meat” at the tip of the knife so I’m not afraid of it breaking on me, and it has kept a hair shaving edge for the past 10 dives. Granted I take great care of my knife but for a dive knife to hold this type of edge in the first place is incredible. I highly recommend this knife to any fisherman out there who is looking for a quality knife that won’t gut your wallet. Get yourself some Riffe forearm straps, some bungee and you’re set.

Good blade for free diving
I thread this knife onto my dive belt and its held up so far after a good half year. I free dive so I have no immediate use for it, but I bring it with me as a safety precaution. It hasn't been damaged by the salt water and hasn't rusted, but that's only if you maintain it by rinsing and oiling after a dive. It's a good buy for the money you spend.

Close but no cigar
Sharp blade and I like the grip, but the sheath release is too flimsy. It broke as I tried to release the knife. I'm giving it another try and if the replacement brakes also, it a failure.

Takes A Licking But Keeps On Ticking
I've had my 2 Promate knives for about 4 years. I sharpen and oil them once a year at the end of the Summer, which takes me about 10 minutes. They are constantly in salt water with me from May until September. They hold their edge and after these 4 years, they each have a tiny small amount of rust stains - barely even noticeable. They are workhorses and they are awesome.
