This needs to get into the history books
Finally someone has produce something worthwhile regarding England's first colony in North America! I tried to find documentaries on this topic years ago with no success. Everything was overdramatized and limited on actual factual information. This author seems to be the perfect person to have written this book and presents many relevant points all backed up with worthwhile evidence. If you want to get the facts on the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island and early history of this region in what is now the United States of America in the state of North Carolina based on primary sources and research, then you will definitely want to read this book. It is easy to read. Kudos to Scott Dawson, Dr. Mark Horton and colleagues, and the Croatoan Archaeological Society for seeking the truth and sharing it with the public.

An Interesting Mystery
I have vacationed on the Outer Banks for 61 years. During that time, I have attended "The Lost Colony" drama 8 times. It was always fun to speculate about what happened to the colonists. When I saw this book advertised, I knew I had to read it. I am glad I did. I appreciate the scientific evidence that was presented in a very readable style. Thank you, Mr. Dawson!

A must read. Compelling evidence from a local historian.
Don't pay attention to the few naysayers on these reviews... They base nothing on evidence. Ridiculous. The archeology and DNA evidence on the actual "Croatoan" Island had finally solved the mystery!Take it from this local outer banks author. Every NC kid grew up learning this history. We should all read this book.

Disspells Myths
The relationship between the English and the Croatoans was quite refreshing, as opposed to the English interactions with the Secotan. It really changed my view of the Indian tribes of the early colonial period. I had assumed they were ALL evil savages…much the way we are taught in our public school system.

Ok
I am fascinated with all.of the Lost Colony theories but this book, despite having interesting information was written in such a fashion, to put you to sleep. Thank goodness it was less than 200 pages.

Rich history
Where did the "lost" colony really go? For years I have thought there was more to know than what we were taught in school. This book is so intriguing and shows the artifacts found that support the "croatan" connection and what that meant. My genealogical ties go back to land near Jamestown on Cross Creek then a migration to lands on the border of the Dismal Swamp in Suffolk VA but the history all around the area I find so intriguing. A great read!! Now I want to travel to Hatteras and see the displays of artifacts.

Very good read
A good example of how history can become distorted through the years and the truth gets lost in retelling.

Interesting topic but . . .
The book is an interesting quick read, but the quality of the writing is poor and the text desperately needs editing. Errors, misspellings, and repetitive information abound. The author is an enthusiast who has obviously devoted a great deal of time to the project, so it's unfortunate that the final draft didn't get a closer look.
