Armageddon (Space Marine Battles)

I loved this book. It is actually two stories, the previously released "Helsreach" and the Novella "Blood and Fire". Both stories are told thru the eyes of Grimaldus, Reclusiarch of the Black Templars, pertaining to his actions during the Third War of Armageddon. This novel is the best of the the series so far for me and Grimaldus, is a truly inspiriring and most worthy. ADB could write a series on Grimaldus. He is a true Badass.The novel itself has a bit of everything, Guard, Titans, Salamanders and the battle sequences are simply "cannot put it down even if my eyes are bleeding" great. The novella was great as well, my only complaint was it simply wasn't long enough. I wanted more Grimaldus, I wanted more exploration and development with Cyneric, and more of the Lions. That aside, it is a fine short story of bravery, sacrifice, and brotherhood amongst the Sons of Dorn. Both stories are written dark, and the enormity of death on Armageddon is quite evident, yet it is nicely broken by the morbidly funny and self centered Storm Trooper Andrej, a truly enjoyable character.

I loved this book and found the main charactandr a very engaging a deep character. As the story progresses he certainly grows, and changes which is great to see specially for Space Marine of the Black Templar. the battles are told in excellent detail and you really get a sense of how desperate the fighting is as the orcs slowly press down on the Imperial the defenders. I really wish they would have carried on with further novels about the battle for Armageddon. It seems like there is so much going on in this conflict quite a few stories could be told about everything that's happening. That was my main gripe when I finish this book that there wasn't any more books other than 40k source material that told of what happened during this the Third War for Armageddon. Over all this is a great read and I found I couldn't put it down once I started. the second smaller story is also good and also you remind you of what black hearted jerks the Inquisition can be when they feel slighted.

The suspense leading up to the action was well-written and engaging. The action was compelling. The moments of levity and humor were well placed and well-written

I don't usually find a WH40K character who I see evolve during the story, but Grimaldus actually does. The battle of Helsreach is a fantastic battle with the Greenskins as part of the 3rd Battle of Armageddon.The short story telling the story of the Celestial Lions is also amazing. Be very careful about the Inquisition. I hope the Lions get some payback, but I seriously doubt they will. The ending may be the best ending in any WH 40K story ever.

First Warhammer novel I've read, will definitely not be the last.

A solid read and very entertaining. If you like 40k back stories and lore, this is a great read.

Another great read ABD, page turning as we watch Grimiladus grow into his new position. War in the 41st millennium.....

A rehash of previously released works but conveniently available in a single tome...

My dream in life would be to chain ADB to a table as a servitor and keep him writing more. What a great story! More of these characters please, sir.

Excellent book. A great read and a nice addition to the Space Marine battles series

Armageddon is a book that includes the novel Helsreach as well as Blood and Fire, both by ADB. Helsreach makes up about 80% of the total book and is the 'brilliant' part of the lot - well written with good characters, great combat descriptions and intriguing dialogue.Sadly everything comes to an end eventually and quite honestly, I do not know who thought Blood and Fire was a good idea. It is almost laughably bad. Everything from awful pacing, reasoning and character interaction is included - not to mention comic relief characters. I have read a lot of Wh40k books in the past, some good and some bad, but this is the worst one yet. Unfortunate because this is highly uncharacteristic for ADB and the previous books of his.So unless you're a literature masochist, spare yourself the pain and stop reading after Helsreach ends. Or buy only that book instead.
