I recently sliced my finger open with a crappy bread knife and decided that my love of bagels could not be deterred by this injury, but that there had to be a safer and better way to cut my bagels before toasting. Here it is! Perfect. Sturdy. Easy to clean. No fuss, no muss, no more blood on my bagel. My finger is intact and my bagel is sliced.

The media could not be loaded. I had previously considered a bagel slicer to be a frivolous food preparation tool, and an extra item to clutter up the kitchen counter. However, I changed my entire point of view after a particular painful incident.Every other week, my husband goes to a well-known bakery, and they are famous for their old fashioned New York style homemade bagels. These bagels are large with a crusty exterior, and the inside is soft and delicious. I would slice them all ahead of time and store them in small portions to stay fresh. This only took about 15-20 minutes, but sometimes the crustier ones presented a challenge to the knife, which resulted in a lop-sided cut bagel. While slicing a crusty bagel and applying a little extra pressure on the knife, the knife slipped and instead took a hunk out of my thumb.Since we do buy bagels on a regular basis, this scary and painful situation caused me to re-think about the usefulness of a bagel slicer. If I need to use a kitchen tool that offers safety from an accidental mishap of a sharp serrated knife, then it’s not a frivolous purchase at all. It is instead an intelligent decision and a worthwhile tool. I use this bagel slicer on a consistent basis, and every two weeks for our fresh bought bagels.General Description:This bagel slicer has a nice compact size, about 9 ¼” in height, a 7” length, and although the base is less than 3 ¼” wide it is very stable. I like the short width which takes up very little room when stored sideways in a confined area.The bagel slicer is a two piece unit.The top piece is the frame that contains the blade, and the handle on the frame is smooth in my hand, with plenty of room that keeps my fingers far from the top of the blade. I like the design in which the entire cutting blade has a clear-view acrylic casing to prevent any accidental hand/finger contact with any part of the sharp blade. However, there is enough room within the casing for my long handled cleaning sponge to fit and thoroughly clean both sides of the blade. The stainless steel blade has serrated cutting edges, and I love that the blade has a non-stick finish for easy cleaning.The second piece consists of the base which is very stable, it does NOT tilt and it does NOT fall over. It has a triangular ledge to hold the inserted bagel, and this measures 4 ¾” across and 2” wide, which easily accommodates our large size bagels. There is also a large rounded slot to retrieve the bagel after slicing. Underneath the base is a flat finger shield which prevents the blade from making contact with anything that’s below the base, including my hand when I carry the bagel slicer from one area to another.In reference to performance, this bagel slicer functions perfectly. The blade pushes down effortlessly and slices our bagels right down the middle. This eliminates my lop-sided slicing especially with those hard crusty bagels. There is no longer a risk of cutting myself, not even with shaky hands and my not-so-perfect eyesight. This entire task is a very smooth operation that only takes a couple minutes to slice through a dozen bagels, which is a lot faster than when I sliced them all by hand.If by chance, there is a rock-hard bagel that needs slicing, toss it in the microwave for a few seconds just to soften it up a bit. Therefore, the bagel slicer will slice through those bagels that have hardened overnight, (if not put into a plastic bag which seems to keep them softer and fresher for a longer time).I could not be happier with the purchase of this bagel slicer. Its sleek design is all about safety as well as superior performance, and with extra consideration for the ease of cleaning. I cannot find a single fault in the construction, with its carefully thought out details. It’s a very effective tool and for me it’s a practical addition to my kitchenware.

I looked at lots of slicers before I found this. I love it! The case & blade are durable & well-made. The "V" design of the blade means it cuts quickly, without lots of effort. The protective shields mean I won't lop off a finger. The base securely holds the bagel, so I don't get uneven halves at the end. I even love the color! Lifetime warranty on an excellent product at a fair price. SOLD!

I purchased this product so my son could cut his own bagels easily and the cool factor might encourage him to do so. He uses a similar product in Sunday mornings at church. I got the official one because I wanted it to work well. It works great. I have used it on Costco bagels. They do get compressed a little when using but bounce right back after you remove them. Do you have to have another gadget in your kitchen? Probably not but it was safer and faster than using a knife. I am happy I bought it. Advice: I felt it compresses less if you orient your bagel to be a tighter fit, so the sides help hold the bagel up. The end result is the same with the bagels we buy though.

I am the gadget queen but my husband wanted this because he wanted an easier and safer way to cut bagels. Well, we both love it. Simple tool that works well to keep your fingers safe. Super easy to use and makes a perfect cut every time. Also, I have lost some strength and mobility in my hands so this is perfect for me too. Sturdy and nice looking. Fits right in with my other countertop appliances so I leave it out all the time. The only thing that would make it better would be for it to have a removable crumb catcher on the bottom. That would eliminate a need for cutting board or counter clean up. Worth the money for us.

I have stopped over paying for store bought bagels and make them at home, problem was slicing them nicely. Well worth the price and gives my homemade bagels a store bought appearance. It's amazing how well this slicer wizzes through the bagels. I'm going to use it for my homemade hamburger buns and biscuits also!

Right through without a problem. Bagel crust is stronger than other crusts so it's stronger and this item works great!! No smashing the bagel either. Thank you seller!!

At first we weren’t sure we’d like it this product because it was somewhat larger than we expected. Then there was the question of cleaning it safely with the very sharp blade inside. After getting used to it a bit and buying an inexpensive narrow brush to clean inside it we found we really like it.Because of its size it’s able to handle large bagels easily and after cutting the bagel cleanly, when you raise the handle back up it draws the bagel out from the holder ready for whatever you want to do with it. Nice.Quality product and it’s MUCH safer than trying to cut bagels with a knife.

Slices as advertised. Sharp edges so be careful. Does require cleaning as any bagel with fruit or other mixture will stick to the blade. The blade slices easily through any bagel. Great product.

This bagel slicer doesn’t slice fresh soft bagel, it smashes it. I can not recommend any bagel to buy this. Good looking but doesn’t do the job at all. Very disappointed, but Amazon would graciously take the return.

These things are never perfect because they all manage to squish down the bagel a bit during cutting; however, this one has such an evil blade that it works best.

Not used the slicer yetThe package arrived today. Unfortunately the base is broken making it unstable to use.
