refreshing/different groove

Straight to the point you can't go wrong with 303. Hits every note time and time again with pure balance, just when you are smooth grooving Rudy hits you hard brigs you up on a high level and keeps you wanting more. It's one of the best jazz albums I have heard over the years fresh new music collaborated with great talent! If you are a lover of jazz and great drumming this a must have.

I love this CD. Rudy has put together a great band here that can do a little bit of everything and do it well. Very highly recommended. Looking forward to whatever Rudy does next.

Where has Rudy been.\? He can smash some cymbals and do it quietly.. What a touch the man has. His playing was nothing short of bombastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I surely hope this isn't a one-off of an album, with Rudy as leader. This album has, as you would expect, extraordinary playing to well-written pieces. Bringing Rudy up front in the mix has it's rewards, as I find his interplay with all of his teammates outstanding, not just with Mimi and Sushi. The music has movement, it's going somewhere. Not necessarily quickly, not overly driven, but it's going. And that's fine with me. i find this a wonderful listen in my office or on a long drive, where I find new 'notes' in each piece with each listen. I've only listened to it around 12 times so far, but I'm working on a full absorption of the music, as I find this rather rewarding.BTW, I'm no musician; I simply know what I like and don't and want to share when I can.

I saw Rudy Royston for the first time at j.d Allen concert in Zappa club - Israel 27.11.15. He is a really tough drummer with special touch. I bought this CD right after the concert. His perfomance at the concert with j.d Allen (They perform the tunes of j.d allen album "graffiti" ) was amazing. This CD is highly recommended.

Rudy Royston is a very versatile drummer . He had play with Bill Frissell and, Dave Douglas among others. This is his first lider album and is a good album. With different stiles inside but always full of music sense. For this sessions he found a bunch of young newyorkers musicians , John Irabagon on saxophones, Nadja Noorhuis on trumpet, Nir Felder on guitar, and Mimi Jones or Yasuhi Nakamura on bass. Probably is not a master work, but you can hear his music everywhere and everytime, and this is great. Good compositions, good musicians…who need more?

I listened to this cd on the way to work today and wondered why I don't listen to it much much more - which I will now. I first saw Rudy live without having heard of him before. he was amazing live so see him if you can. I bought the CD - its top quality music. thanks Rudy

Bateria de Bill Frissell y Dave Douglas entre otros, este es su primer disco como líder y he de decir que sorprende. Siempre ha sido muy versátil y aquí lo demuestra con creces. Excelentes temas propios y una impagable version de Mozart, acompañado de un excelente grupo de jóvenes promesas del jazz en N.Y El disco báscula entre lo lírico y rítmico, con un envidiable sentido del compás. Hay temas de todas clases y todos buenos. Si quieren una referencia esta puede ser Dave Douglas en sus últimos trabajos. Se puede escuchar a todas horas y en cualquier momento. Un buen descubrimiento para los amantes del jazz actual sin estridencias.
