Book 5 of the After series—Anna Todd’s Wattpad fanfiction that racked up 1 billion reads online and captivated romance readers across the globe! Before explores Hardin Scott’s life before Tessa, reveals what happens after After , and gives new insights on their turbulent #Hessa romance. Cosmopolitan called Anna Todd “the biggest literary phenom of her generation.” That’s Normal declared Hardin and Tessa “The Mr. Darcy and Lizzy Bennet of our time.” Revel in the awesome, messy power of true love. BEFORE Hardin met Tessa he was a raging storm. DURING those first moments they met, he realized he needed to keep her for himself—his life depended on it. AFTER they got together, the world would never be the same. Hardin and Tessa’s dramatic love affair became a vortex pulling in everyone around them. For the first time these others are given voice as they appear before, during, and after the events in original After novels. Alongside them, Hardin’s account of his first encounters with Tessa—which will change what you thought you knew about the brooding boy and the angel who loved him. Review: My FAVORITE out of the whole series! - This book was strictly from Hardin's POV. Anna done such a great job showing his pain, his strength and his passion for Tessa. He is so full of Anger for the life his has lived and now that he found Tessa he wants to be so much more. This book was much more emotional for me, not that the others weren't but Hardin was broken more so than Tessa. Yes she was abandoned by her Father at 10 but Hardin was without a Father because he left and without a mother because she worked all the time. I think he was always a gentlemen when he needed to be, but when his rudeness came out he showed it with no problem and no remorse. I watched the "After" movie with my daughter and thought that is was such a wonderful story. I then read all the books and of course "Before" being the last book. Like I said, "Before" was my favorite. Reading all the others were like riding a roller coaster with Hardin and Tessa! I found myself being a cheerleader for Hardin, seeing his journey thought their relationship was the final strings to make a neat bow to end this LOVE story. I hope that Anna Todd will continue to write such powerful books, showing love and honesty. Review: Wow. - Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but the films are definitely better. While I consider myself a writer, I am by no means an expert, but I could easily see the books being condensed down into three novels; maybe even two. I read the entire series in four days, but there were honestly some instances where chapters - some of which were not even chapters, but merely one or two pages - could have been merged with other chapters in order to make the book less...convoluted. That being said, the story itself is...intriguing. Frustrating, hectic, chaotic, and even a little frightening. The level of obsession with which Hardin Scott views Tessa Young and vice versa might (and should) make any sane person run for the hills - fast. But, then this story hasn't really claimed to be anywhere near sane, has it. I can't say I'll read the series itself again anytime soon - at least, not without a therapist present in the room with me - but I am looking forward to the last two movies. Perhaps another unpopular opinion, with some, but the studio did a great service to the films by casting Hero as Hardin. I may be biased, since I first came across Hero as young Voldemort and enjoyed his small performance immensely, but I really do not see anyone else bringing that level of violence, chaos and also emotional nuance to such a damaged, but still worthy of love, character. Both Hero and Josephine sell this series. No matter how many casting changes, or changes in location, or however many setbacks this series may witness, as long as those two remain on board, the sh*tstorm that is Hessa's inevitable journey towards their future won't be so bad.

5/5 Stars A Perfect Addition to the After Series
Before by Anna Todd is exactly what I hoped for and more. As a fan of the After series, this book felt like getting the missing puzzle pieces I didn’t even know I needed. Seeing events from Hardin’s perspective adds so much depth to his character—his emotions, his past, and the reasons behind his behavior all become clearer and more heartbreaking. What I loved most is how the book doesn’t just re-tell the story; it expands it. The new scenes, different points of view, and deeper look at the characters’ lives made the entire world of After feel richer and more complete. It gave me a stronger connection to the characters and made me appreciate the original story even more. If you’re a fan of the After series, Before is a must-read. It’s emotional, raw, and beautifully written—Anna Todd knows exactly how to pull on your heartstrings. Highly recommend!

I actually loved reading this book because it gave new material
I am a huge After and Anna Todd fan. This book is an extension in the series and is in the point of view of the leading male character, Hardin, as well as a few of the other supporting characters in the story. You could read this book on its own without reading the previous four books, but to get the full affect and fully understand why Before is, well, Before, you should read the rest of the series first. I actually loved reading this book because it gave new material, and new insight to why certain things occurred. But also touched on some of my favorite scenes from the first book that I could read over and over. Sure, it does skip around some, but the point of the Before was not just to rewrite After in Hardin's point of view. It was to allow a new prospective into important parts of the plot and maybe further explanation as to why characters are the way they are. If every series had something like this I would love it. There are always characters you wish you knew more about, and more things you wish you knew about the main characters as well. This book provides all of it. I was very, very, pleased.

Not as good as the other books in series but…
Still worth the read. Like how the book explores the characters lives. Good last book for the series

A must read!!
I almost didn't buy this book because of some of the less then flattering reviews but I'm so happy I did. I felt that the last half of the After Ever Happy book was rushed leaving us with so many unanswered questions. I wanted to know more details. Before...... answers most of these questions when you read the part in the book that is Hardine's POV. Everything about Tessa and Hardin's life will come to light. This has been my favorite series.....ever.... and you really should read BEFORE to complete the series.

The opposite of a love story
Whoa...I have to be honest. I hadn’t heard of of this series until I saw the preview for the movie. I was so intrigued by the trailer I immediately downloaded all 5 books in the series. I read them 4 days. I couldn’t stop. Like, I tried to stop and I just couldn’t. I just finished the last one. Just now, while sitting the bathtub while the kids are out. I’m sobbing. How do I read something else now? This series was the most real, raw, gritty, truthful, honest, hurtful series I think I have ever read. Ever. It will stay with me for the rest of my life. Anna Todd wrote the most brilliant words I’ve read in the longest time. Where most stories are fantasy and struggles are quick to be overcome and the happily ever afters are so easy to achieve, she wrote the opposite. It was struggle and second-guessing and emotion on top of emotion, and cruelty, and love and it was just absolutely beautiful.

Wow!
I started reading the After series 2 weeks ago and I literally couldn’t put them down. They were addictive reads and I was sad to finish them. The Before book was such a great closure to the series. I found myself wanting to know what had happened to the other characters in the stories. Anna Todd you are one talented lady, you had me hooked from chapter one. I am so happy that Tessa and Hardin finally found their happily ever after. I think most people can relate in some ways to the challenges of relationships and having to overcome pasts in order to move forward. The way you described the characters throughout the series left me feeling like I was watching a movie the whole way through. Damn, so much happened to these two young people but they overcame it to be better people and have their futures come together in the end. Will be reading more from Anna Todd for sure!!

Super
