Beck/Arnley Trans Filter - 044-8001

There are many schools of thought with regards to whether OEM is necessary or not. I can personally. vouch for this oil filter. As mentioned, it fits quite snug, feels high quality, and *seems* to have somewhat reduced my car's oil consumption. (Subaru Forester, 2021)

Good fit for a 2000 Subaru Outback.

This was billed as the correct transmission filter for a 2001 Subaru Legacy. It is WAY smaller than the original, which means it probably has significantly less filter material inside.Very frustrating that manufacturers misrepresent their products.

Had a local shop change the transmission fluid. I was surprised that they didn't change the filter. When researching this,I learned Subaru does not have a recommended replacement interval for this filter so the shop was technically correct in not replacing it; however, since I did have 140,000 miles, I decided to replace the filter.It is easier to replace this filter than the oil filter. Since removing this filter does remove some fluid, after removing the filter I weighted it and compared to the new filter. The old, 'wet' filter was about 6 ounces heavier than the new, dry filter so I added 6 ounces of AT fluid to compensate. Don't know if that was necessary, but then again, according to Subaru replacing the filter was not necessary. ----> This is not a substitute for regular changes of the AT fluid.
