Dreaded E8 error code. My fix
Very easy to install, we had a problem about week two of using the heater, kept getting E8 error code and only able to use one faucet for a very short time. Look up the code in the manual and it says exhaust vent restriction. So i changed my outside return to a bigger one. Same problem. So then i change the 3” exhaust pipe as recommended in the book to a larger 4”, still have same problem. So now i know its not anything i installed that was causing the problem. This was a few month trial and error. So i put everything back to 3” exhaust and left the large aluminum return. Now im convinced the heater isn’t actually having exhaust problems but starving for fuel, since i tapped into my central heat and air line. I had roughly 6’ of 3/4” gas line T off from my unit to the water heater. So i upped it to 1” to get more volume for the heater to use. Still didnt fix my problem. Still E8 and only 1 faucet. By now im ready to rip this thing off the wall and buy one from local supply store. I wanted to take it apart and see if maybe there was a bad sensor or an obvious issue under the panel. Didnt see anything other then some thermal sensor touching the flame box, moved it off and secured it, still same problem. My last resort before i ripped it off the wall, i wanted to look down into the exhaust of the unit itself. And viola i see a chincy metal grate, push on it with screw driver and it pops down, i bend it and pull it out. Put exhaust back on, outside return has its own grate so dont need the factory one. Unit Works perfectly ever since can use as many faucets as i want and as hot as i want.

Worked great makes extremely hot water
I truly love the extremely hot water this makes. I have a meat shop and we pressure wash the floor and need scalding hot water to melt the fat and grease. This gets up to 150 degrees. The downfall is once you turn the water off just for a few seconds when you turn it back on it takes a minute to get hot again. Somehow the cold water gets in. I’ve had this for 3 years now and it’s having issues turning off. I can’t find parts for it so will have to buy a new one. The Marey company doesn’t seem to carry parts and I need a flow valve. I’ll order a new heater but will just try to repair the old one myself also. I have the 8.34gpm unit. We use it about 3 times a week and run about 100 gallons through each time

Does the job at half the price
Consistent hot water, easy installation, it just works. At about half the price of other brands, this unit has been excellent so far. Installation took just a few hours and it fired right up. My only gripe, I can’t imagine more than one source of water being used as it drastically cuts pressure when multiple points are used, but very satisfied none the less.

Freeze protection does not work
Advertised as having freeze protection. Did not work unit froze and cracked pipes inside. Manufacturer customer service was stopped responding. Ended up having to soldering the pipes so I could turn the water back on and have hot water again

Poorly packed on ends. Both ends crushed.
Received on schedule but not secured on ends. Resulted in crushed vent on top and case broken and bent on bottom. This is a heavy unit and must be protected better on ends.

Works well
Installed with 90* bend in exhaust pipe just above unit, which caused exhaust to shut down the unit. This unit allows for reprogramming the exhaust fan speed, which corrected the fault. Puts out lots of hot water for the $$.

Seamed okay 👌
This is quite the piece of equipment but before you buy check with your gas provider, I personally hooked mine up but it wouldn’t work so I had a professional come out, he said he couldn’t Even touch it because it isn’t up to code , with this particular model you would have to wall off your water closet door and make an outside door so that it’s not considered a part of your living space, like my propane furnace has it would need a separate air intake and separate exhaust which would be fine inside the water closet where the existing electric water heater was, I’m sure it would have been alright if it were up to code but didn’t work for me. Like I said check with your gas provider first. The propane expert said if he came out and saw that the homeowner had hooked up a separate device without first getting permission from the gas company that they would have shut off the gas and shortly after promptly remove both tanks and that would be that. So do yourself a favor and check with them first if you’re a professional handyman and can do it yourself, if you hire a professional, the first thing they will do is contact your gas provider for permission 👍 like I said if it had a separate intake and exhaust it would have been fine but please do yourself a favor and check with your propane provider first, they can give permission or say nope not up to code. PS the propane professional said he’s had a Rinnai for 19 years and that Rinnai is the beast of tankless systems, he services it every year to clean any sediment also has a before filter but 19 years is a good testimony for me , I like those odds
