Excellent Book for High to Advanced ESL Company Employees
I contract out to a well-know international company where I tutor employees transferred to the states. This is the best book I have found for teaching business vocabulary/phrases/expressions that turn up in meetings at companies especially in retail. There is practice with the related prepositions and verbs. The book is aimed at making presentations. My students don't have to do that, but they sometimes have to listen to presentations and they do have to participate in informal department meetings. Whether they are listening or speaking, they will run into the phrases, vocabulary and grammatical structures illustrated in the book. The units are a few pages each and include guided exercises. It comes with 2 CD's.My chief complaint is that while the original version had recordings in North American English, the new edition's CD is spoken in British English. There are also issues uploading the content to itunes or MP3 players which means you need a CD player. I actually rely on an old tape player and the original tape that came with the first edition. I consider this an annoying drawback to using the recordings during a class session.

The audio in this book is excellent! Chunking
The audio in this book is excellent! Chunking, articulation, intonation in sentences completely changing the focus and meaning, these are just a few very well done features. My student and I are in North America, but the British is very clear and standard. Besides that, it is always good for someone to learn English on a global scale, able to take in different accents, and still clearly hear the word stress and get the message others are trying to convey. This book is so easy to use and very applicable to the professional setting whether presenting or not.

Presenting English 2011
I love this book. I have used it in many English training programs and it is very rich in content and helpful. That said, it made me sad to see this book re-edited, and then find that the pictures were slightly changed (to a less attractive style, in my opinion) the lay-out re-done, but no updating of the text itself. There is an example that talks about the the future of the industry in Europe depending on the yen, and an example with 2005 as a future reference. The text was first published in 1996 - so in a way it's amazing how well it has vintaged. But to have 2011 as the new copyright date, without changes being made to update examples and then no reference to when the text was actually written is disappointing.

Great for Higher-Level Learners
Although the vocabulary in this book makes it difficult to use with learners who are not advanced, the techniques and exercises are extremely useful for teaching presentation and persuasion skills. Geared toward working professionals, this textbook includes using rhetorical questions, tripling, clarification, commenting on visuals, effective openings, dramatic contrasts, and dealing with questions. One of the reasons I like this book is because there is also a section on developing language - allowing me to push higher-level learners to expand their vocabulary range to sound more professional or switch into a more formal register. In addition, a large portion of the book works on pronunciation skills such as articulation, stress and intonation, thought-groups, and pacing.

Great--but a little misleading
I have been waiting a long time for this book to be updated. The original edition (and mine is battered and tattered from overuse because it has been such a valuable resource) contains outdated information (such as the short presentation which contains reference to the "Twin Towers") and this edition revises that along with a few other things, although otherwise it is mostly the same. The CDs are also easier to use, of course, than the tapes. To me, it is the best book out there for presentations, and some sections are also good just in themselves for practice, for example, in the language of graphs and for general English pronunciation. My only objection (which is why I gave it only 4 stars) is that the amazon title suggests that it is all US English. The CD tracks, however, are given in a variety of English accents. This is really not a problem (actually it is probably a good thing), but the "US" heading is misleading. Overall, though, I highly recommend it.

Gutes Buch, durchdacht
