Outstanding, beautiful mat!
So originally I was looking for a cork mat to solve my static issues, but I just really did not care for the look, so I opted for leather, and seeing the great reviews for this mat, decided to give it a shot. Aesthetically, the mat looks fantastic! High quality leather, very symmetrical, no rough or frayed edges and extremely soft. Of course as noted by other reviewers, the personal note and old record sleeve shipped with it are great touches that make you feel like the mat was custom made just for you! As far performance goes, static almost completely eliminated. I have only had the chance to listen to some newer records in my collection, but the bass definitely seems to be more clear, tighter and warmer than my felt mat. Anxious to put on some old favorites that I am really familiar with to observe just how much the sound quality is improved. This was a great purchase, and though maybe slightly more expensive than a cork mat, totally worth it!

Oh goodness, where do I begin?
I kinda am at a loss for words. Because its both the nicest thing I own and also the most necessary unnecessary thing I own. I mean, its gorgeous, and it performs as a slip mat phenomenally. Very little static as advertised and both sides are usable based on what need you have. I mainly use the smooth side as the more suede side sometimes leaves fuzzy stuff on the opposite side of the record (really easy to clean off with a record brush, as you should do anyway) and I just prefer the smooth side. For a slipmat and nothing but a slipmat, 30 dollars can seem like a lot but its handmade, genuine deerhide leather, AND comes with a handwritten note from the seller and maker! It is 100% worth it in my opinion. As far as sound goes, I can’t really tell, but it is MUCH less prone to excess static than my previous felt and cork slipmats, which is what I mainly bought it for. My only real slight complaint is if a record i’m playing has an overly extended label in the middle, theres no outline in the middle to account for it, so one record in particular wobbled a decent amount because of it. Maybe the suede side would have been better for that case, but I couldn’t tell you because I only encountered that issue with one vinyl and I immediately returned it due to other issues it had. I’ll have to test it again if I get another case like that. Otherwise, i’ll never use another slipmat again!

If you're looking at cork, look at this. I'm glad I did.
Seller left a nice note in the packaging. Obviously a labor of love. Quality is impeccable. I'd love to have a coat made of this. So soft yet durable. Not suede-like. This is fine high density leather with just the right "minimal" damping coefficient. Much to my wife's chagrin, I'm going through all my old stuff and resurrected my Thorens TD-150 turntable from the mid-sixties. Back in the 80's the thought was damping the record was best so I had one of those Sorbothane mats. Wow, how wrong that was. Sounds are much crisper and fuller with this simple, elegant, thin piece of leather that couples the album much more directly to the platter. I'm sure there is a physics lesson in here somewhere. It is a bit thin compared to the original rubber mat and that fat Sorbothane piece of goo but the arm (Linn Basik) is still parallel to the album. Highly recommended. On the Thorens, if I want to play a 45 -- childhood -- I need to use one of those yellow plastic 45 inserts vs. the Thorens reversible "center adapter" because the original Thorens rubber mat had a larger hole to seat around that adapter. All good, wouldn't change a thing. BTW, I was going to go with cork but my wife gave me a nay-nay on the color. Glad she did. Haven't tried the cork so I can't comment on the differences. Again, all I can say is Jake's mat looks and sounds great. At the price point, I'd love to see a double-blind comparison realizing there are so many other variables involved.

An Excellent Slipmat
I had done some research and looked around for a decent cork or leather slipmat for my turntable. There are a lot of decorative options but I wasn't going so much for decoration was I was for sound and quality. This slipmat surprised me as it arrived in an old Cleo Laine and Dudley Moore vinyl cover (which I found humorous) as well as a hand-written note hoping I enjoyed this new slipmat. Before I even put it on my turntable I was pleasantly surprised. The craftsmanship was quality and I had wondered (and worried) if it would be cut too small, the center hole be too small, things of that nature.I placed it on my turntable and it fit snugly. It wasn't too loose or too tight, it fit perfectly. I put on a couple of my favorite records and tested the sound quality. It sounded like it did a good job at accentuating the bass tones and made the high notes a little more subtle and crisp. That was exactly what I was looking for.For those who haven't replaced a slipmat before or are moving from a felt or cork to this, you're going to want to adjust your tracking force. Overall, I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to buy a leather slipmat or just a new quality slipmat in general. Also, thanks Jade. I am enjoying this slipmat.

Not just for audio snobs. Incredible performance when DJing with scratch mats
My purchase was an impulse buy that I came across randomly. Am I ever glad I did. These deer hide mats work so well with my ThudRumble butter rugs (the mat sitting on my mixer), it quite literally boggles my mind. Static was just one of those things, you deal and move on. But dealing meant accepting excess dust on my vinyl, and the subsequent wear on my needles and my records, and of course loss of audio fidelity as a insult to the injuries. There wasn’t a single instance of pulling a record off my decks where my scratch mat wasn’t glued to the record via static force. It’s -30 where I’m at today, and as dry as it is, record comes off, scratch mat stays put. And to anyone reading this, the scratch mat is thinner than paper, not that I couldn’t adjust the tone arm height to compensate, it’s just not necessary. For listening, yes, these mats will improve the sound your turntable is capable of reproducing. Listened to Sabbath’s vol. 4 in its entirety for the first test. I’ve listened to that album several hundred times, in every media format, on every playback medium, in a vast number of different environments. This time it had something more that my ears really liked. Rubber mats are getting donated, and for the remaining years I can drop a needle on a record, it will be with these superior mats underneath. Not the typical use case scenario, but for DJing with, these offer something that I previously thought was unobtainable, scratching clean records. Squeaky clean. And not from doing anything, like really at all, aside from starting with a dust free surface.I thank you good sir for making and marketing such a well made product that, from where I’m standing, is a game changer for an art that is older than I, using a media that would outdate my grandparents by a couple of decades. I tip my hat to you :)

Great product that makes a big difference
This mat is well made and looks great. But more importantly, it has greatly reduced the effect of static during playback of my LPs. I've hardly heard a pop or a click since I started using the mat which makes it more than worth the price to me. There has also been an improvement in the sound, including a slight bass enhancement. I've found the mat is best used suede side up as the smooth side gets a tad sticky if it's warm. Loved the packaging (an old LP sleeve) and accompanying note from the seller. So this one gets top marks from me.
