The Kerner Report (The James Madison Library in American Politics)

Astonishing
It’s very interesting as to how subtle and the ignorance at large how people survive this system for years and still years to come

Without photographs
Unfortunately this edition does not contain the many photographs and other illustrative information as offered in the original report. I am returning and will be purchasing a secondhand copy of the first edition report.

This book says so much about the US
Incredible and illuminating that we have this report and almost none of it has been addressed. It highlights the failures and inhumanities of modern America as a result of a mix of negligence, and a culture that has baked-in barbarism as an invisible feature or trait.

The deep root of our social problems: WHITE RACISM
The book answered all of President Johnson’s three questions: what happened? Why did it happen and what can we do to prevent it from happening again. Today, 2022, we as a nation were provided the superb answers and solutions to our nation’s deep-rooted racial problems. Yet, our dominant white elite billionaires have refuse even to this day to provide the solutions that are clearly laid out in this report that can ONLY be implemented by the white billionaires of our nation.

What could have been...
As timely today as when it was written. The fact that Johnson buried the main recommendations of the report set the course for where this nation stands today in terms of race relations. The good that COULD have been was waisted and we, the later generations have to deal with the fallout.

An important book
This book/report went against the prevailing thoughts at the time. Someone probably should have paid far closer attention.

You should start here if you want to understand intractable discriminations like racism, sexism, etc.
This was the first book I know of to really show the conscious and unconscious processes of recurrent discriminations really work. For me, what was powerful is that it showed how an individual or a community could overcome one or two discriminations, but it is the collective impact of this pseudo random process that is toxic beyond belief. Very factual, but easy to read and understand.

relevant today as then
The report sounds like it could have been written today with all the rampant racism and discrimination that happens today.
