Fab lady, fab read!
I love Liz Smith in absolutely every role I've seen her in but particularly loved her in The Royle Family. What a star! Her early life wasn't easy and she was later left a single parent to raise two children.Liz never gave up her dream of being a working actress and eventually became a national, much loved icon of film and TV.What a treasure who overcame her difficulties in life with such aplomb! Her resilience was so strong! This story of her life was a joy to read and I highly recommend it to anyone who admires her.

What it says on the tin
I met Liz in '79 when working on the film set of Sir Henry at Rawlinson End. Her real life character leaps from these pages and rekindles some very fond memories of this lovely lady...

Charming and light (so far) look at the author's sometimes turbulent life
I have just begun the book and I am already in love. Beautifully written with an admirably light touch, Liz Smith is as talented telling stories in prose as she is telling stories through acting. The style in both is incredibly economical and understated but demonstrates Liz's innate aptitude for storytelling.

Like afternoon tea with a wordly aunt at Bettys
This is a terrific read although I felt it tailed off a bit towards the end . The book runs in a style of short self contained chapters with each one very much like going out for tea with a favourite aunt or grandma who asks for the tea and then tells you a short story from her past about how she worked with Dora Bryan in Buenos Aires , finishing with '..pass me a scone dear they are nice with jam'.At times its quiet poingnant and at times its very funny , but I never tired of the yarn .My one dissapointment with the KIndle edition was that it lacked pictures , which seem to have appeared in the book .

Not the best.
I loved the basic story, but wasn’t keen on the style. Too scrappy and lots of jumping from one subject to the next, with no apparent thought.

There is such sadness but also much joy in this book
Fabulous. Liz Smith had such a hard life and she portrays her upbringing and life with such heartwarming honesty. There is such sadness but also much joy in this book. I could'nt put it down. Long may she live happily.

Entertaining anecdotes, but digital version lacks images.
Funny read, but unhappy that the photos and illustrations will not appear in the digital (Kindle) version.

A fascinating look into the life of one of England's great(IMHO) comedic actresses. She had a hard life in the beginning but overcame that in her later years.
