Overall, the product appears well made, with a nice surface finish, and a plasticky feel. Although it is built down to a price, it seems robust enough to survive a good few camping trips, as long as it is not abused. It's not waterproof, but will withstand a bit of light rain, provided it is wiped dry. The brightness control is slightly graunchy, and small adjustments near the brightest setting can give relatively large changes in light output but, despite this, it's perfectly usable. This lantern was bought in the hope that it might be useful in dark sky observing environments, and for that first thing in the morning "normal lights are too bright" situation, and it fulfils these requirements perfectly. Stealth campers will appreciate it's ability to deliver low brightness lighting, when needed. The control knob on the side allows the user to adjust the lantern over an extremely wide range of brightness levels. At its minimum setting, the lantern's current consumption is around 1mA (yes, 1 milliamp, equating to an estimated 0.3 lumens output), which would give a battery life well in excess of 2000 hours, using three standard AA alkaline batteries, at this setting This would also make it quite usable as a dim light for a child's bedroom. At the maximum brightness setting, current consumption is more like 1.2A, with fresh batteries (4.5V), and this falls to around 300mA when the battery voltage is 3.3V (1.1V per cell), giving several hours of bright, usable light, at the maximum brightness setting. Dedicated dark sky watchers might appreciate fitting a red filter over the lantern's window, to further preserve their night vision.

Bought this in in case we have energy cuts over the winter

Great lamp at a great price. Will be getting another. Gives a good light and batteries come with it. Bought really in case of power cuts this winter but will use it in the summer for evening bbqs. Light weight and easy to carry and much better and safer than candles.with a.Lively dog around!

I purchased 3 of these lamps, they arrived on time and were well-packaged. The batteries were included, and you can adjust how bright or dim you want the lights on. I have not included the life of the batteries, as I have only had them a few days, and have not needed them yet, I purchased these in case of power cuts this winter, I will report later if anything changes, I would recommend these to anyone my age (79) living on their own for this winter, all you have to do is is slide the top up, and you have light
