Sad story but an excellent one
I am a big SRK fan, so even if he was horrible, I would have bought and watched it. If you are looking for him to be the center of attention in this movie, you will be disappointed as this is one of the very few, that he is not. It is mainly about 3 students at a college in India, who become best friends and what happens while they are there. Where SRK comes in, is he is one of their teachers who kinda bombards his way into a job on the campus as a music teacher, where the stern Amitabh Bachchan is President and Lord over all and certainly shows it in no uncertain terms. He (SRK) then starts to slyly change certain rules and traditions at the college, that Bachchan has had in place for ages and irritates him to no end. But SRK has a secret of his own that ties in with Bachchan and in the end, has to force his hand. However, this is side story to the students but ties in as well, with what is happening in their love lives and school. To me, SRK can do no wrong, no matter how cheesy or happy-ending the movie (unless he dies and then I am mad) and this did not disappoint me. Some people say his acting is self promoting but if it is so, it is only because it is the wish of the nation of India that makes it so, considering he is the absolutely undisputed King of Bollywood and life to them. Having seen him play in so many roles, I can say, he truly deserves his ranking. Viva la SRK!!

Risking all for Love
I was honestly very impressed with the story. The film is 3.5 hours long which might have put off some of the viewers. At the heart of this story is the battle of fear versus love and centers around 4 young men (3 students and one former student) whose lives intertwined and were affected at India's most prestigious mens college, Gurukul. For 25 years, headmaster Narayan Shankar, ran his college with strict protocol based in Gurukul's unshakeable pillars of tradition, honor, and discipline. Should any student tarnish Gurukul's impeccable reputation by breaking any of its rules, he would be immediately expelled from the school, in turn affording him no opportunity to enter any other university or receive employment.Along comes Mr. Raj Aryan, the one known student in Gurukul to have been expelled because of his love for the headmaster's daughter. The manner of his dismissal was so abrupt that the headmaster expelled Raj without even having met him, an action which prompted the distraught daughter to take her own life. Raj is back to teach the headmaster a lesson and is determined to change the ways of Gurukul forever. Thus the battle of fear versus love begins. Taking cues from their teacher, our three young students are inspired to take risks in love and life. The songs and dance were colorful and beautiful, and the movie is well editted when brining Aishwarya Rai's spirit character into the storyline. Love it. Must be seen.

Moving story that teaches what it means to really live.
I tend to be cynical when it comes to falling in love. This film powerfully conveys through the backstory of the main character, the encouragement he gives his students, and his interactions with the head of the college that life without allowing ourselves to fully love isn't really living at all. It also has many striking scenes, beautiful theme music, and singing/dancing scenes I felt were very good. This film is a great work of art and lesson about living life.

Impactful Story - Incredible Actors
This is a very well done film. The backbone of the film is Shah Rukh Khan's role. And Amitabh Bachchan is very powerful in the film. The love stories of the three students were enjoyable. The story, music and dancing, and cinematography were all very beautiful. The most powerful aspect of the film was the relationship between Shah Rukh Khan's character and Amitabh Bachchan's character. The ability of Shah Rukh Khan's character to forgive and think of the well-being of Amitabh Bachchan's character is absolutely amazing. In real life, it would be hard to find someone with such a forgiving and loving heart. The scenes which included Aishwara Rai's character were nice. This is a wonderful story!

Fully Enjoyable Film About the Power of Love
Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan) is the headmaster of an elite and prestigious boys school, Gurukul. Shankar believes in honor, tradition, and discipline, and disapproves of anything that would take a students mind off of his work--especially love. Into this atmosphere comes Raj Aryan (Shah Rukh Khan), the new music teacher, who believes in the power of love, and encourages his students to break Gurukul's traditions. Three of the students, Sameer (Jugal Hansraj), Vicky (Uday Chopra), and Karan (Jimmy Sheirgill) fall in love and, as a result, risk expulsion. The love intersts are played by Kim Sharma, Shamita Shetty, and Preeti Jhangiani. The cast also includes Aishwarya Rai, Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Archana Puran Singh, Shefali Shah, and Helen. While being mostly predictable, this is a fully entertaining film. Bachchan and Khan give strong performances, for which both received awards. The six young people were credible and mature in their roles. The music was good and the choreography, though not exceptional, was enjoyable to watch. The girls' costumes, however, were mostly sports bras and super-short minis, an outfit not attractive for any of them. One other negative point was having to watch Khan fake playing the violin--it was painful to see at times. Other than that, this is a feel-good movie that was a pleasure to experience.

Infantile Mess
My God pure torture for 3.5 hours. A very stupid story about unrequited love. Most Bollywood movies are joyous. This is so misguided that you want to to slit your wrists. such talented actors and music in such a horrible screenplay. Please don't waste your time.

Delivers
Big fan of SRK and AB, ‘ parrently 1st time they’d co- starred and it delivers all you expect from this super star cast packed with beauties lead by Aishwara Rai. Good music. Lots of energetic dancing, and tear jerking moments. Reminded me of Dead Poets Society and I now see it’s labelled as a DPS rip off, and - yeah it depicts a teacher going into a stuffy institution lead by a dinosaur, breathing a breath of fresh air into the students lives - but really the outcome is nothing like DPS so I don’t think it qualifies as a Rip. Some good twists heading towards the inevitable and -ok - pretty predictable conclusion, but this is a corking stonker of a Bollywood. Even managed to squeeze in our favourite mad dad Anrish Puri, he of the demented eyes and demonic expressions. Throw in a few heavyweight wedges of romantic cheese and you got yourself an enjoyable movie. 9 and 3/4 ( ha ha ) out of 10
