Stories that stay with you.
I am a big fan of Benioff’s writing. His book, City of Thieves, was easily in my top five books of 2016. I had been saving this collection of short stories so as not to deplete my Benioff supply and while I am pleased to have read these stories I am somewhat deflated that I nothing else of his left to read. This collection of stories is eclectic. On the surface some of them are a little weird, but they are all profoundly personal and human. I think that is because Benioff is essentially writing about the could have beens, the what ifs, the fork in the road in the form of ordinary moments that can change the course of your entire life. And even if they don’t change your life, we all wonder about the ripple effects of our actions. There is an accessibility in Benioff’s stories because he is writing about the human condition and I love his writing style because it is spare and honest and broken down to essentials of what we feel and experience.I am still carrying all of the stories in this collection with me, even the ones that didn’t sit comfortably with me. That is a testament to his skill as a writer that he can make the reader take that discomfort and let it dwell in you and think about it long after you have turned the last page.I say read everything Benioff has written – you won’t be sorry!

Great Collection of Stories....
Great collection of stories from an amazing writer. I always feel like I'm watching Benioff's stories on the screen. And I always want more.

Roller coaster ideas and emotionally true stories that touch readers' minds.
Mr. Benioff is an engaging writer. Each story in this book is surprising to the reader; they are not predictable. He keeps the reader's interest. I was particularly impressed with the last story, it is quite extraordinary and extremely honest seeming in terms of realism. All good stories.

Compelling stories
These dark stories lie somewhere among gruesome, quirky and surreal, at least in the minds' eyes of the narrators. Ultimately there's something oddly satisfying in the narratives, in spite of a lack of authentic diversity of voices; it's as if the mind of the story was being fully realized through various dreamlike characters.

A feast for the mind and heart
David Benioff is a beautiful wordsmith and a brave thinker. The stories meander through a variety of tones, themes and settings, but all are suffused with wistfulness or haunted by tragedy. On the other hand, several are also quite funny. Characters are vivid, like expressionist portraits. This is a short-story writer who reminds you exactly why you love short stories.

Disappointed After Reading City of Thieves
After City of Thieves which was a great read I was looking for something else by Benioff. This was all I found and it was a bit disappointing even though the stories are quirky.

Loved most. Disliked a few.
The Devil Comes Comes to Orekhovo is easily one of my favorite short stories I've ever read. While this story and some of the others (Merde, Neversink, When the Nines Roll Over, Barefoot Girl) may be incredibly well-crafted, I have to admit I found some of the other stories disappointing. Still, it's a short story collection. You aren't going to love them all. It is certainly worth the purchase, though.

Don’t judge a book by its writer of GOT SEASON 8.
Greatly written stories. I love Benioff’s writing except the last season of game of thrones.

An amazing writer
Now I have read everything Benioff has published and will be on the lookout for more. Both of his novels and these stories are some of the best writing I have ever had the pleasure of reading---- moving, funny, original, surprising, completely engrossing--- my words can not do justice to the excellence of this author.
