Impressive technique!
Absolutely love this product! This was my first attempt at image transfer and I had watched the Amy Howard tutorial and it appeared to be straightforward, but this is definitely not an easy technique and takes a lot of practice to master before images transfer nicely (for me anyway!) First and most important, you CANNOT use a photograph, your image must be printed on regular inkjet paper!!!! I learned this the hard way lol… I also learned that prep and priming is required on some surfaces like the slate photo I posted, anything porous will require a coat of sealer first or the images won’t transfer (wood, etc.) I didn’t prime my first piece of slate and the image came out black. I primed the second piece with black gesso and once again, black. Finally with white gesso there was success! The longer you let each part of the process dry, the better the results. Be careful when putting down the paper on the surface, I ripped one image trying to move it into place. I waited about 24 hours for the image transfer to dry and to take off the paper is not easy. I tried using my fingers in a circular motion and wore the skin off, so recommend an old cut up cotton t-shirt. Once you take off the first layer, there will still be a haze, let this dry and take a second or even third pass at removing the paper. Try not to rub too hard, I wore through one of my images. The canvas picture I posted, you can put image transfer right on the canvas, no priming needed (but I did buy a pre-primed canvas with gesso). It’s definitely quite a process but the end result is worth the work, it creates a very unique piece of art!
