Great Product and Absolutely Incredible Customer Support
I build high-end work station computers for myself and others. For several years, I've been including one of the dual-tray Icy Dock enclosures in every system to simplify swapping solid state drives used for backups and mass data storage. The Icy Dock enclosures are of high quality and are easy to install and use. That alone made me keep buying them and also telling others about them. Recently, however, I needed some of the very small screws that are used to attach a solid state drive to the removable trays. I contacted Icy Dock's customer support and received a response the very next morning. Peter Thong, a member of the USA Tech Support Team, was one of the friendliest and helpful tech support reps I've ever worked with in well over 50 years of working around computers. Within a few days, I received the screws in the mail. Although I'd offered to pay for the screws, Icy Dock sent them to me as a valued customer at no cost. I was already a BIG fan of the Icy Dock products but now even more so. Thanks Peter and the rest of the Icy Dock team.

Perfect and not just for the money
Money well spent! I had to improvise with other screws, the ones they provide were too short for my Optical to floppy conversion bracket. Beware tho, its easy to put in the caddy the wrong way around and break it if you try and force the lever close. It is a sturdy build but it is not knucklehead proof. The quality for price makes me want to buy the large RAID options, and I have no use for RAID. Activity lights DO work, but only for drive that support it e.g my $25 SDD does not but a seagate 1TB HDD does. ALSO if you have a seagate HDD that is 1TB yet uses 1 platter (super thin) its garbage. model SDC001. Guess what, took me 5 seconds to unlock and pull that drive from my pc to read model number. Here, watch me put it back. HA! took 3 seconds, cause I did not lock it. Words cannot describe what a luxury this is. Removing a drive from any PC should be this simple. I constantly have to disable a drive or pull one, usually for installing an OS and dont want boot sectors written to my personal drive. IT HAS HAPPENED despite best efforts and it can really muck up your day. Now I need more caddys.

Failed with minimal use
I've purchased several Icy Dock products (mostly in the ToughArmor, i.e. all metal, series). All are working well except this one which has failed at some point in time. Since I don't use it often I'm not exactly sure when it failed but it no longer supports both SATA bays at the same time (seems like SATA #2 is most often not working but if I play a game of hot swap I can get one or the other to work at any given a time - just no longer both at once).Kind of pointless to have dual bays if only one works at a time. The enclosure was never mishandled, the only use it saw was occasional insert/removal of the 2.5" trays. It spent it's whole life in a single system, installed (and then removed) only once.Tried multiple SATA and SAS2/3 controllers in different systems with different drives - all exhibit the same issue so it's definitely the dock that is faulty. All my other ToughArmor docks have lasted a lot longer with a lot more constant use and tray swapping so not sure what's up this model.

Very useful, we can finally fill those pointless floppy bays ...
Very useful, we can finally fill those pointless floppy bays in cases like the Sonata III. I have a few of the 6-bay IcyDock units and they work great, with 7mm drives! These units work, and use the same exact trays as the 6-bay units, but when using 7mm drives, the connector-mating alignment is not as smooth on these units in comparison to the 6-bay units. Perhaps with a 9mm drive or 7mm plus the 2mm spacer would help the alignment. Overall I am glad I found these units.

Best 2.5" Hotswap Drive Dock to use in your 3.5" bay(s)
I use similar hotswap bays in various desktops and servers.Pro: I think this is the best constructed one so far. Stable and consistent transfer rates. Great heat dissipation but the cage/dock can become hot when using traditional spin-drives without proper cooling. Uses only one power plug.Con: Not much - but it does have a slight drawback when using two spin-drives simultaneously; the dock/cage needs to be vented itself. Heat dissipation from the dock/cage is very good so just a bit of moving air will keep this cage/dock cool to the touch. My two cents regarding spin-drives - use 7mm or thinner drives and try to stick with low heat generating drives (lower power consuming and/or lower speed) - or just SSDs :pDetails of my experience with this device (I currently use/own two of these):-Desktop: Currently using two Crucial SSDs. Have used OCZ SSDs in these. No heat related issues. Excellent transfer rates - close to rates when plugged directly to motherboard.-Server: Tried using two Western Digital WD7500BPKX (750gb 9.5mm 7500rpm) drives and the cage/dock becomes very warm to the touch enough to cause me a tiny bit of worry about internal temperatures. With just a little more power added to the case fan that blows across the CPU/CPU-fan and directly onto the cage/dock, the dock stays lightly warm to the touch. No longer use these drives in this cage/dock.-Server: Currently using two Western Digital WD5000LPLX (500gb 7mm 7200rpm) drives. Cage/dock is lightly warm to the touch. I bumped up the case fan like for the 750gb's and the cage/dock is cool to the touch.

difficult to remove drives
i love the concept and bought two so i could have six hot swap sata SSDs up front in my server case.problem is that it's always a struggle to pull out the drives because they get stuck inside. i think some mechanisms in there needs improvement. these work with only thin size ssd drives like the samsung 870 evo which is what i was using with them.note that the power connector end needed from your power supply to juice up this model is the type used for floppy drives from the 90s.

Very high quality product
Wow! This looks and feels like a very high quality product. It was a bit more expensive than other similar items but the reviews convinced me to buy it and I'm so glad I did. This fits great, looks great, and is very functional. Only downside is that you must insert the drives in a removable tray, but that is far outweighed by the construction and usefulness of the device. Highly recommended! Besides, what else are you going to do with the floppy drive bay?

Not too impressed
Maybe it has to do with them forcing 3 drives in a small space, but the led fell off, and it is very very difficult to get the drive sut. It seems like 3 is pushing it... It may be me, but looking back I would have purchased a 2 drive bay instead.
