Gideon, Garza and Eli Glinn Return For Another Adventure
Gideon Crew was supposed to die from a brain aneurysm like 3 novels ago, so it's amazing that he is still fighting the good fight for this story. He was also supposed to go easy on the stress, but in Pharoah Key, he crosses a huge desert on foot and with camels, almost dies of thirst and almost gets killed half a dozen other ways. Eli Glinn is pretty much NOT in this story, and yet, he is. You'll figure it out. And Manuel Garza finds his muse which was incredibly unique and a bit peculiar. As usual with Gideon and pals, a super fun read, hard to put down, and keeps me addicted to Doug and Linc books. Thanks for the adventure!

The hype goes undelivered
Don’t fret too much about the spoilers here because the authors have already spoiled the book. Let’s start by cutting to the chase. To lure in buyers, the book is hyped with the discovery of a world-altering secret. Close to the end, one character does unearth it, but refuses to divulge it to others, and worse, to you. This is bush league of the highest order. The lame attempt to justify this is the the character doesn’t want to burden Gideon (protagonist) with the terrible truth. He has a fatal illness and a couple weeks to live. How much of a burden could that be? Pure nonsense. The basic plot is that Gideon and Manuel are undertaking a dangerous exploratory mission, in search of riches that may be held by an undiscovered tomb of a pharaoh. You have weeks to live and you’re going to burn them on this? Along the way, they stumble into situations of certain death, only to be saved by banal improbable escapes. A woman imposes herself into their expedition and they are enslaved by a primitive tribe. Insert an assortment of hackneyed events of the great white explorers being captured, accepted and then revered. Then, there are the contradictions. As example, once enslaved, they are assigned tasks. It is noted that, even though Gideon is a fair shot with the tribe’s bow and arrows, he isn’t included in the hunting parties. Within a few pages later, our heroes are plotting their escape and assessing their chances. It comes up in their discussion that the tribe possesses only primitive weapons and doesn’t even have bows and arrows. How was it determined that Gideon could shoot the tribe’s bows and arrow when they don’t even have them?As for reviews that lament the end of the Gideon Crew series, don’t bet on it. If true to form, this is buyer bait and look for a pulling-a-rabbit-out-of-the-hat explanation of his return. While there are parts that entertain, the undelivered promises do not merit a reward by reading it.

All loose ends tied up
Great book to end the series. I read all 5 books in 3 weeks and enjoyed them greatly. Should have read them a long time ago!

a little bizzare but definitely enjoyable
Pendergast will always be my favorite series/character but I gradually became more of a fan of Gideon Crew years after the initial books came out. I'm a sucker for egypt so that may be partly the reason, but I really liked this story and the bizarre mix of why?... what?...etc and the implausible but yet... maybe?... left me perfectly satisfied. Enjoyable.

Maybe the last Gideon Crew story?
The book is a rousing adventure with lots of character development. This is suppose to be the final Gideon Crew story according to the authors but we will see. At times, it seems the supporting characters are more fleshed out than Gideon. This is certainly true of this story. Over all a great read.

Better and better.
I have read many of your books and have yet to be disappointed in your efforts . The stories are very entertaining and I seldom can stop reading once the story starts. Thank you for another good read and an afternoon spent with my interesting friends.Dave

Enjoyable and Outstanding Read
After reading numerous reviews of the newest Gideon Crew novel, I decided to read The Pharaoh Key despite the negative reviews. I am glad I did for a couple of reasons ... To continue of streak of reading every book both writers have written and to see if the reviews were correct. I enjoy the outstanding journey that the writers brought us along with Gideon. Love when books bring the reader to new worlds to meet new people. I also enjoy when non fiction and fiction are mixed to challenge the reader to look into new information. Enjoyed the book from page one to the final page and cannot wait for the next Preston and Child book.

Well worth your time
Almost as good as the first few Preston & Child collaborations. A few too many cliff hangers in the style of old time Saturday matinee movies but not enough to reduce the number of stars. The plot is outlined in other well written reviews. It was a great read cover to cover.

Excellent story.
These authors don't let you down. Another good tale to take you out of the ordinary. Okay, you do have to suspend belief in some aspects of this but a well put together adventure that holds your attention. I have read quite a few of these tales, by both authors and enjoyed all of them. Recommended as a good adventure, not too many twists and turns but a good narrative throughout.

Gripping thriller
Preston & Child always write excellent novels and this is no exception. Very difficult to put down once you have started to read. A roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Poor conclusion.
The bookseemed rushed and the storyline suffered because of that. I will not spoil your read by saying more only that I was very disappointed with the last of a good series.

Enjoyable enough read but the one of the weaker books by the authors.
Douglas Preston and Lincoln child have written some great books individually and together as a duo. I've read every book they have written but I would say this is one of their weakest books. Plot is a bit thin and it's all over a bit quick and things are a little predictable. Hopefully just a little blip.

O dear
I have read all of the Preston/Child books but I could not finish this one. The writing and story are so juvenile it is difficult to believe that they have written so many good books as this one is really bad.
