Fluffy but good.
A bit like Marmite, most will either love or hate it. It is annoying but is easy to read and there is a lot that you can take from it. I have been working through the thirteen rituals and find them a good exercise, getting you to think in the right way. I thought that the smiling would last a few seconds but when I gave it a fair try I find that it does help change your mood, helping focus and intent. Maybe written to make money but as a starter book there is a lot to recommend it.

Do some research, please...
This book is not about hedgecraft, not by any length of the imagination. Ms Ravenwolf mostly talks about smiling (to the point where it felt more like propaganda, every other line you're being told to smile and keep smiling because that is what a good little hedgewitch does) and getting what you want because you smile. The way she goes on you'd think that being a hedgewitch only requires that you make some soap and grow a few flowers on a windowsill. It is so much more than that. Hedgecraft requires a lot more than 13 rituals and a dedication ritual to be a practitioner. It takes practise, hard work and years of dedication- this book demeans it. Just as other reviewers have said, this is more fluffy green wicca. And to the reviewers who say 'But I like it! It makes me feel good!' Fine, ok, it makes you feel good. That doesn't make it a good book about hedgecraft or being a hedgewitch. There is no mention of the Hedge, no discussion of hedgeriding and methods for acheiving trance- in short, nothing that would be useful for someone who wants to learn more about the path of hedgecraft. Please, pass this book up. There are better ones out there for green witches and wiccans, and there are better ones out there for hedgecraft (see the reccomendations of the other review- they're pretty good, though I would also add 'To fly by Night').

This IS NOT hedge witchcraft...Utter fluff...terrible
Now the FIRST thing I am going to say before amazon kick up a fuss is I DO OWN this book. However I did not buy it off amazon. I bought it in Waterstones. Amazon DO NOT STOP THIS REVIEW AND SAY PLEASE ONLY REVIEW BOOKS YOU HAVE PURCHASED. I HAVE THIS BOOK OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T WRITE A REVIEW OF IT. Now let me begin by saying that I am sure when Ms Ravenwolf first started writing books that she genuinely wanted to help people. Her New Generation Witchcraft books aren't absolutley terrible, they aren't great either but there are better authours out there. This isn't to say that some people will not find these books of use as some will. Her New Generation Witchcraft books (To Ride A Silver Broomstick, To Light A Sacred Flame and To Stir A Magic Cauldron) (And YES amazon I DO OWN these books to. My mam bought them for me for xmas) seem to be a mix of good advice, some useable techniques and exercises and utter mis leading nonsense. Personally I don't like her books. From a beginners stand point they are perhaps of some small use but they need to be taken with a large dose of salt as much of the material is just wrong and it is peppered with the authours own biases and predujices. It most be stated very clearly that this book IS NOT about hedge craft or hedge riding. It has absolutely nothing to do with hedge riding at all. It is new age trash. There is no mention at all of the hedge or boundary, crossing the hedge or hedge riding, trance work, estatic trance etc, the otherworld or otherworld journey which IS CENTRAL to hedge riding, shamanism basically in short there is no mention of hedge riding at all! It is totally wrong to present this trash as hedge riding. This book is very, very misleading about a hedge witches true tradition. It demeans the subjuct & gives entirely the wrong impression of hedge riding. Let me be very clear about another point here. In order to be a traditional witch YOU MUST receive the tradition in person. If you do not receive the tradtion in person then you do not have it. Much nonsense is written these days about traditional witchcraft. Ms Ravenfluff frequently refers to herself as a traditional witch. She is no such thing. In fact she is just about the furthest thing away from traditional witchcraft that it is possible to be. There is nothing in this book of any worth to any genuine seeker. The Hedge Witch Book is complete, utter, worthless fluff. Please do not waste your money on it. In fact I have to add to this review that this book isn't really about wicca at all.I now spell this authours name as $ilver Ravenfluff in reference to her latest offerings which aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Hedge Witch by Ms $ilver Ravenfluff certainly isn't worth the paper it is printed on. Do yourself a favour don't buy it. Books which are worth buying however if you are interested in the true hedge witches path are (if you can find it) 13 Moons and High Rise Witch by Fiona Walker Craven, Hedge Rider by Eric de Vries (available on amazon) Green Witch by Murphy Arin Hiscock Treading the Mill by Nigel G Pearson. (this book is British Traditional Witchcraft and it is intended as a manual of techniques for beginners, seekers, the more advanced) Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson (be aware that is there is controvery over this book & some consider it to not be traditional witchcraft which is what the authour calls his practises) The Call of the Horned Piper by Nigel Jackson And please remember don't waste your money on Ms Ravenfluffs lateset nonsense offering Hedge Witch (Also I will probably find myself in one of Silver's little stories in her books in the future because I don't like this book & say so)
