Selfies

A delightful collection of self-portraits
“Selfies” is a short book in which each chapter consists of two self-portraits: one a description of a piece of art such as a painting by Judith Leyster or a photograph by Vivian Maier and the other Sylvie Weil's response to that self-portrait, her own 'selfie' from some period of her life. Some of these snapshots are wry, such as an unsuccessful author event at a book fair or an awkward tea with an old friend of her mother's, while others are deeply moving. I am delighted to have discovered this book both for Weil's company and for its insights into various aspects of twentieth-century history and culture.

Highly enjoyable autobiographical short stories
We read this for our book club. A series of vignettes linked to self portraits. An extremely enjoyable read, excellently translated.
