Good product with a little help!
I used to use Eagle Creek Comfort Eyeshade which has been discontinued (4 stars). I've tried many masks and that was my favorite and I would have ordered half a dozen if I'd known this were so. The straps on the Eagle Creek Eyeshade were 1/3 from the top of the shades and 2/3 to the bottom which made them comfortable on the face (and ears).I've never been a fan of eyecups like on Bucky's Eyeshades as I don't open my eyes in a eyeshade mask and they tend to brush your eyelids. Bucky's Eyeshades have the strap right in the center of their shades horizontally. The bottom of the band presses uncomfortably against the top of my ears, so I got some scissors and cut the bottom of the band in a semi-oval around where my ears were rubbing. Now they fit fine and will be my replacement eyeshades for the Eagle Creek Comfort Eyeshade.I didn't have a problem with the velcro strap pressing against the back of my head when sleeping on my back as others have, but it is certainly more noticeable then in the Eagle Creek shades.======Other masks:I purchased the (new) Eagle Creek Easy Blink Eye Shade, and looking a little like a miniature bra, I can say they aren't as comfortable as Bucky's 40 Blinks Ultralight Sleep Mask (the full name of the mask which I'm reviewing here) or the discontinued Eagle Creek shades as they are a little stiff and the strap is in the center.Dream Essentials Mask, Bucky's Shades Sleep Mask and Eagle Creek Sandman Eyeshade are both too heavy and plush for me.Sweet Dreams(tm) Sleeping Mask with Carry Pouch and Earplugs, light, similar to Bucky's mask, looks like those masquerade masks people raise to their faces on a stick. Nose piece a little stiff and strap is in center so hits the top of the ears.Might be best to hand wash eyeshades but I've always put them in the wash for a good cleaning and the fabric layers will separate eventually, then I buy new ones. Don't put them in the dryer as they'll come out looking like two tiny pigeon eggs sunny side up!Face masks are pretty personal, these are my thoughts, and l and I hope you find what you're looking for :-)

Different but great eye mask
I have a lot of experience with sleep masks. In fact, I am so used to sleeping with them that I cannot sleep without them now, even if I am in complete darkness. My husband likes to watch TV before he sleeps and I need complete darkness to sleep, so this is how I started using the eye mask and then this turned into a mandatory item for me to be able to sleep. I have many very soft sleep masks which I love, and I wasn't sure about this one when I purchased it. I slept with it a few times and I really like it. It is different from my other plush eye masks. It looks a little bit like a bra (in the sense that there is a little cup for your eyes to be completely open and blink inside the eye mask - as the product description states). So if you put this mask on, you can open and close your eyes as you want and all you see is darkness. There is a tiny little bit of light that comes thru the bottom near your nose if you sleep on your side, but really negligible (take it from someone who needs darkness + eye mask to sleep). In all the years that I have been using sleep masks, I have never had one like this, and I have to say that the experience was different and in a good way. I actually enjoy opening and closing my eyes while the mask in on my face and I find that it gives me a nice soothing feeling before I fall asleep. I am not sure I would have purchased this product if I had seen it in a store because it does not look soft at all (and I really like soft sleep masks). I am surprised to say that the product really works and is very comfortable. I am happy to add this to my collection and I do get a nice sound sleep when wearing it. I would definitely recommend to anyone who needs an eye mask to sleep like me.

GETTING MORE ZZZZZZ'S
I am so glad I ordered this sleep mask. I had bought another type of mask at the local bath shop that was terry cloth (washes nicely) and flat--no contour. I have long lashes and did not find these comfortable. They were tight, also, and not adjustable. Along come Bucky 40 Blinks. Oh my, so comfortable and totally adjustable with a Velcro strap. I have finally caught up on all that lost sleep from 5:30 am (when my bedroom begins to light up enough in the am to wake me up) until I have gotten 7-8 hours of sleep. I was only getting about 5 1/2 hours of sleep because I stay up late, was awakened early by the summer sun rising, and was getting tired. Now, as soon as I begin to stir in the am, I remove my CPAP mask, put on Bucky, and off I go into sleep paradise until I am well rested. I did try using it over the CPAP mask but that did not work for me. I would imagine each person's facial contours would be the deciding factor in how the Bucky fits.Well, anyway, I had noticed dear husband was beginning to look very tired, also. I knew he, too, was having trouble getting enough sleep. I had bought two Buckys and was waiting for the right opportunity to suggest that my very masculine husband give it a try. He finally did ask me where the mask was (I know that was hard for him) and he slept until 10:30 am the first weekend he wore his mask. We had several days like that and now I think he, too, has caught up on those lost ZZZZZZ's. He now grins and wants to know where his "little black bra" is. It is 9:30 am right now and he is still snoozing.I have not washed the Bucky yet, so I cannot address it's durability. I did buy an extra one in case it falls apart. I'll let you know.

Why the extra cost for the "luggage" model?
I am still unsure why the so-called "luggage" version of 40 blinks costs $10 more than the regular version, which I have been using for 3 years. It seems to be no better, and the two models seem to look alike, except for a narrower strap on the luggage version. I am hoping that the quality of the mask is better...and let me explain. The regular version of 40 Blinks starts to fray at the edges after a few months. It is glued down, but the glue is inadequate to the job. I end up overcasting the edges with thread to extend the life of the mask, which lasts a year or so with the repair (I wear it every night! It is the best fitting and most comfortable sleep mask I have every had, and I do love it. However, it is annoying that when I pay that much for a mask, I have to put up with poor quality construction. I am willing to pay the extra money if I get a longer life out of it, but if it makes no difference, I will, if it starts to fray, return it to Amazon with a complaint! At the moment, as it looks the same as the cheaper model, I have my doubts that it will last.

it's pretty illuminated. I got two of these and for ...
My hubby and I work shift work and go to bed when the sun is rising and it rises right in our huge bedroom window. Even with curtains, it's pretty illuminated. I got two of these and for the first time since the purchase of our house (1 month) we finally had a good night (day) sleep. It is comfortable, stays in place, breathes and even with our different head shapes (I'm slim in the face and hubby is big boned and has quite the nose. Both of us with the same product love it!!! It's kinda girly looking but it's pitch black so as long as we both were it no giggling fest. We also love that for the eye lids it's like a dome so we're not squished by the material.Great product!!!

Excellent eye mask!
I have bought this a couple of times and it's an excellent eyemask. Blocks out most of the light and it's nice to be able to open your eyes when it's on too, there's no pressure on your eyelids at all. The only bit of light which creeps in is around the bridge of my nose, but that might be just my nose shape, probably different for other people. I find it difficult to get back to sleep in the Summer when the light wakes me up too early, which is why I bought this mask - now I get the usual amount of sleep during the summer months. The mask is comfortable to wear and the Velcro strap is really handy for then the elastic starts to sag a little after you've had the mask a while. Mine started to wear around the bridge of the nose after about 8 months but hey, these masks are great value for money and it's no hassle or expense to buy a replacement. Good value for money!

The Perfect Sleeping Mask
I've been a lover of Bucky's sleep masks for awhile now, so I was definitely happy with my purchase. I have a few of them now - just incase I take one with me somewhere or want to give one to a family member or friend. They are PERFECT for anyone that hates sleeping masks that rest right on top of the eyes because you can open your eyes, blink, etc. with the Bucky's masks. And, as a woman - they are perfect if you already have your makeup on for a night out but need a little nap beforehand...no ruined makeup! Love love love these sleeping masks!

Keeps out the light!
Love these. I had a pair a long time ago and have tried many other kinds in between. It takes a little getting used to once you put your face on your pillow but it's worth it. I have never owned a mask that keeps out as much light and the eye sockets in the mask mean you don't get the mask squished up to your eyes. I will only ever buy these moving forward.
