Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious: Design (Design Series)

This is one of a series of books on specific designers published by the Antique Collectors' Club and I think they are really excellent. Each of these small-format books is beautifully designed in itself, and gives an overview of the work of greats such as McKnight Kauffer, David Gentleman, etc. So you get examples of their work from throughout their careers, not just the odd example plucked at random. This is important because many of these designers were multi-talented, and turned their hands to many different fields in the application of their style. Fantastic books: If I could afford it, I would buy absolutely every one.

I chose this because I am familiar with the work of both artists and wanted to see more of their designs. It has plenty of illustrations and examples and has given me lots of ideas.

It's a small book, beautifully designed and full of gorgeous illustrations. There is a wide scope of techniques: watercolors, prints, woodcuts and textiles, designs for ceramics and drawings. It will make you want to know more about these two artists.

Lovely book, rather smaller than anticipated, but the contents are good

The Batman and Robin of English illustration and design, illustrated beautifully and written with knowledge, enthusiasm and sensitivity. A very precious book.
