Gorgeously written
I bought this after going on DDP level one as it was suggsdtsd reading. I am so glad I bought it. It perfectly describes what children on trauma are thinking and feeling in a way that can really support caregivers and professionals to empathise and support them.

Powerful read
I love this book of poems. I'm bot usually into poems, but I could not only relate to them for myself but also for children and young people I work with. I find Dan Hughes has an incredible and powerful way with words that gets to the core.I would recommend this book to others (and often do). A brilliant buy.

Essential reading for anyone with traumatised children
Easy to read and such a great insight in to the minds of these traumatised children. Hard hitting well written poems.

distillation of a psychologist's work with children
In a short space Dan Hughes captures the reality of so many children's damaged lives and the cost to their carers of looking after them and seeking to restore them to health. Dan has written a number of other books designed for a professional audience. This one distils the impact of his work on him personally.

It was a brilliant book, very inspirational and love how he explains the theories and his thoughts behind his poems.

Moments Connected
It is a privilege to journey with Dan Hughes through the labyrinths of the dark abuse, terror, and utter helplessness that children can suffer at the hands of adults. Over 95% of children taken into care are victims, whose lives might be beyond help, were it not for the work and insights of people like Dan Hughes. That 25% of all adults in British prisons have been in 'care', and many of those adults who are homeless, unemployed or have mental health problems have also been through this system, is something of an obscenity.Dan Hughes is a clinical psychologist who can blend prose and poetry in a way that highlights the lives of desperate children in a way that is more telling than academic tomes three times the length. Each poem - and they were written as a way of Hughes being able to process the experiences he went through whilst working with children and families - is followed by a short explanation placing it in a therapeutic framework. And yet it is no easy read, and I found I could only digest and appreciate a few poems at a time. There is joy and light, though, as well as screaming desperation, and all those of us whose lives are touched by such children and young people would do well to keep this book within easy reach. To summarise, my own words to pay tribute to the many crafted by Dan Hughes -`Let time past and futureMerge, melt and mouldInto our NOW together.'Kevin Street, Principal Education Case Worker, SWIIS Foster Care, Birmingham, UK
