Frustrating
Usually this is my type of book. But I cant help but be defeated by the fact that lucas character was so.... blah. There wasn't much to him and it made it even more annoying that she was always typically on the backfoot with him. Why was she always making the first move or trying to be nice when their last encounter would be him not really giving a crap about her. Because that's the impression I got most of the way through this, that he was ambivalent toward her. But what really got me, was his reasoning. Because there was just no need. Break off contact? OK fine. Where in that did it mean he had to be cruel to his so called best friend who he so called loved and make her do things like walk the rest of the way home when concussed like he was the one was hurt. And I guess that's my biggest grievance, because she didn't call him on it, only the initial reason. Even worse, when it became apparent he told ava she just said its OK. Wtf. But speaking of, there was a scene in the tailgate party where she slaps ava, from the minute he interrupts I have no idea wtf he's saying. Or her. Why the he'll would he be disappointed in her for slapping someone who deserved it? Whys he telling her to just stop? Stop what? I found it an extra kick that it was ava of all ppl. And I didnt feel the development of their relationship either, it just sort of happened as if lucas just sighed and said alright. Cuz thats how his attitude through the whole book seemed. Aloof. Also let's touch on the fact that it seems so unlikely that their parents for 2 years, just suddenly stopped being friends and it never occurred to junes mum to say something to her old friend? Like why are u hostile? Why aren't we friends? Its just not believable and annoyed me enough to decide that although this is my type of genre, I didnt actually like it that much. Maybe if June had more backbone when it came to him Instead of always blocking out the bad I just don't feel like he redeemed after that

Good but had the potential to be better
SPOILERS i really enjoyed the first part of the book and it felt like it was building up to something good but there are too many loose ends and Lucas's behaviour needed explaining. I understand why he cut her out of his life but it doesn't explain why he was so cruel to June especially while sleeping with OW. I also felt the OW angle should have been explored / explained more. Ava attacks June but seems to get off Scott free? I'm hoping some of this might be tied up in Lucas' pov!

Another cracker from Ginger
I love Ginger's books, her writing and story telling as well as her characters. She weaves plots with drama, romance and first love so fluently. I always want to come back for more. Her characters for me are real, with flaws, problems and emotions that make them likeable and relatable.I'm not a huge sports fan myself so I appreciate not too much time is spent on sport details as by that point i think I'd get a little bored. It's just enough to set the scene without too much.I also really like to read about this side of things, as being in Scotland this doesn't really exist for us here. High school football is not a thing here!Jumping into the next one happily!

A good read
I loved this book and how June blossomed into a self conscious teenager into a strong young lady. I do think Lucas could and should have grovelled a lot more than he did. I cant wait to read his side in the new book later this year

This book slaps.
I really enjoyed this.I'm already a sucker for sports romances. Add in some teen angst, secrets, a childhood friendship gone south and trying to reconnect with your first love, then you pretty much got me hooked. The story between June and Lucas is complicated. It stays complicated for a while.I'm already SUPER excited for book 2.I received an ARC of this for review. My opinions are my own and haven't been influenced.
