3/8" Drive Premium Quick-Release Pear Head Ratchet 8-1/2"

This is a quality ratchet wrench. Works every time under difficult environments (Sub Zero Temps, Oil, Water, Etc.). I work on the gas drilling rigs in OH and PA. This wrench has never let me down. I highly recommended it.

Very nice heavy duty ratchet where I like the tear drop XL head over the larger ones of the main 5249 line. Allows a bit better clearance in some spaces. This ratchet is heavier than my others and the balance of this is better using extensions to add weight the the head. That way the handle swings more evenly. That isn't to say it is unbalanced at all. With standard sockets I feel it becomes handle heavy so in my smallish hands this can be tiresome. The knurling isn't aggressive and the roundish handle does allow easy handling without contributing to palm or finger callouses. I like it for "clean" work because with any amount of grease, I can't grip it as well. If wearing gloves is is a reduced issue. When choking up just under the head where it is oval shaped is fine for a good feel on quick ratcheting. Just be careful because the handle is heavy so you may find it banging other objects within the arc.I've used Craftsman Pro or Stanley Workforce (Back in the days circa 80's when this line was USA made.) Like any of these tools, some yield themselves to specific uses than others even if these are similar 3/8" ratchets. The ratchet is great all around so depends what you've become accustomed to. I like it and the handle is about 1.25" longer than my others.This ratchet fit my variety of USA Craftsman, Proto and Stanley USA made 6-12 point sockets without issue. Mated fine with the Proto extensions, U joints and the China made Craftsman wobble bar. The detent ball centered and locked into all of them.This Proto will outlast me for my uses. For the $50 price I'm glad to have added this to my tool assortment. GTG highly recommended!

I bought a second one I liked the first one so much. It came very used like years of use, with stripped gears.

Proto Ratchets are absolutely top of the line. The chrome plating and finish on my ratchet was beautiful, and thusfar has held up quite nice to abuse. The grip is perfect and the quick release works flawlessly. Great ratchet that functions well despite abuse.

Don’t waste you money. Buy SK tools. I bought Proto because I wanted made in the USA and box shows up with made in Taiwan. Wtf. To add insult to injury its typical chinese junk. Looks pretty but broke after being used a few times.

As usual fit/finish were beautiful. However, the sockets did not lock on properly (I have many other QR ratchets that work perfectly). I have the 1/4 version of this tool and it is fine. I tried 2 of these 3/8 and both were defective...sent back and bought Black Hawk instead. Was a pity, because this was really a beautiful ratchet...the best I have ever seen!
