Knossos - A Complete Guide to the Palace of Minos

Excellent book, old but well worth it!
Excellent detailed guide- the first part of the book discusses the history of civilizations on Crete and gives background on what we know of Minoans and Mycenaeans. It then goes on an in-depth walking tour of the main palace and nearby sites, describing what's known of each room and interesting discussions of archaeological finds and the reconstructions that greet tourists today. Other sites on Crete are briefly mentioned, but without much detail. The book is several decades old, but still very good, and far better than anything I've found online. I didn't think it was as quite as excellent as the Mycenae guide, but still very good and it's clear the author has extensive knowledge. Unfortunately, though, tourists ruin everything and much of the wonderful experiences detailed in this book can no longer be enjoyed at Knossos, which can only now be experienced from raised walkways and behind ropes. Consequently, many portions of the palace can only be experienced vicariously through resources like this book.

Knossos- A Complete Guide to the Palace of Minos
I read Archeology Magazines and Minoans were mentioned so I sent for 'Knossos' to learn more. Quality is what I look for in reading matter. My book arrived in wonderful condition and I am able to share it with other family members. This makes ones conversation more interesting when with a group, something other than string beans and babies.'Amazon' is my best friend when it comes to reading. I can travel the world with the books Amazon can supply me, up to date I cannot fault them in anyway.I love to study my books and let my mind wander at times, imagining I am living in that period and what it is like, this is a great tool for creative writing, Fact, mingled with fiction. I am more than 3/4 of a centry old and went to school to get my leaving age 62 then and used this method for my assignments, I miss those days and the vibrant young people.

Your Ball of String to the Labyrinth
This is the best book that I've read on the palace at Knossos -- and I've read quite a few. For someone wanting to get a good, basic idea of the layout of the palace and what artifacts were found where, this book is perfect. The descriptions help bring clarity to what is typically a labyrinthine subject. Great pictures and reconstructions. I also liked the summary of the myths about Knossos and the Minoans in the beginning of the book.
