A good start
Distorted blues is Buddy's trademark but this CD lets you hear how he started. It has recordings from about 1960 to 1965 which all have a jazzy-souly feel to them. Kicking off with the classic "First time I met the Blues" which blew Eric Clapton away the first time he heard it. Even though this isn't heavy like most of his later recordings it is still clear to hear his fantastic guitar playing. His voice is quite a lot higher than the deep voice he has now but it is still apparent that he has a great and versitle voice. Not absolutely essential but I would reccomednd it to any Guy fan.

Unfortunate
Being a true Buddy Guy fan it is unfortunate for me to give this album only 2*, this is because I do not feel his strengths are given proper room to blow you away. Instead of his usual blistering blues guitar work complimented by his deep melodic voice, you are presented with a more swing/jazz type of album with a high voiced Buddy, ok if you like that sort of thing but if your're looking for the Buddy Guy that Jimi Hendrix and Clapton loved. He is not on this album.
