Ride Your Wave [Blu-ray]

So far, I might not be a fan of Masaaki Yuasa’s work. The Night is Short Walk on Girl, alright. Lu Over the Wall, weird (Makes me call it: Ponyo on steroids!). Mind Game, Really Weird (gave it a chance, but not the type of Arthouse for me). Though, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and Ride your Wave is that phrase for me. What made me like this film more than his previous work (at least the work I’ve seen so far that I just mentioned), is that Yuasa dials down his strange wacky animation techniques and utilizes threads to deliver something or optimism while keeping things serious when it comes to let go of someone you once love dearly. For those who like Yuasa’s crazy part of filmmaking and animation, I appreciate a storyteller when I see one, but that part of his style doesn’t mesh with me a whole lot so far. In the meantime, this is my Yuasa favorite.

Movies like this, Remembering Marnie, Wolf Children, Violet Evergarden literally ALWAYS get me bawling. Loss is incredibly hard to deal with and while life may never be the same after losing someone who mattered to us, we can always take comfort in the fact that we will always overcome our pain & appreciate the world around us once again. This movie is straightforward and simple, but I loved it anyways because it can convey such a message to such a younger audience who may have already faced loss. Even though her friends thought she was crazy for imagining him, I think the world is a little easier to be in when we believe in a little magic. The animation was wonderful and the voice actors were amazing! I would have liked the score to be a little more intense but it was a cute movie. I'm glad she loved surfing again and I kinda wish we saw her after college or something during the ending credits.

Well, apart from the fast pace scense, there were some wholesome points, but overall with how everything connected it just seemed sloppy and not really that great. The "tearjerker" moments were a little sad but ain't nobody jerking anything from me apart from... well I'll leave out of the review.

I really enjoyed this movie. It avoided the typical rom-com cliches. And contrary to what another reviewer said, as a woman I actually quite enjoyed that the men in this film were allowed to be soft, and sensitive, and depicted as multi-faceted beings - something we don't see enough of in mainstream media. They are physically strong, but also have a high level of emotional intelligence and strength as well. My only gripe is that there was so much singing - which I know is supposed to be amateur-ish, but I didn't enjoy Hinako singing the theme song over and over again. I'm also biased towards pop music in general so, take my complaint with a grain of salt, it might be your new fave song, who knows. Anyway, overall I really loved the animation, and the story.

I would have given it 5 stars but 4 cause he (the main character), yeah I won’t say but that’s why I give it 4 stars. The seller who has it gets 5 stars tho for having this and super quick delivery thank you and it’s a good movie and I love anime I’m a nerd I do love this movie tho but if you are a love struck romance happy ending kind of person like ME, you may cry. It’s just so beautiful and heart felt. I bought it to cherish it for always and watch it when I’m in a happy sad romance kind of mood. Thanks amazon and the seller.

I watched this in Japanese with English subtitles, which is what I am accustomed to doing.Glorious animation. Great storytelling.As others have noted, this is basically a tragic romance between young adults (perhaps 18 to 22 or so).I had no trouble empathizing with the characters, or their situations.Romances are not, in fact, one of my favorite genres. But I can recognize great film-making when I see it, regardless of genre.Highly recommended!Note: the above was the SD rental. It is very well done on Blu-Ray as well.

My DDs and I love anime and when we saw the trailer we knew this was going to be a fav!We were right!I love the soundtrack the best!So uplifting!We had fun eating popcorn and sipping cocoa to this movie!Mother DD date night go to!

Perfect and pulls on the heartstrings, I cried so much watching this. This is one of my favourite anime. Item was perfect when it arrived.

Having already watched "The Night is Short, Walk on Girl" and hearing good reviews, I was excited to purchase and watch Ride Your Wave on Blu Ray. After my initial viewings, I am happy to say that this movie exceeded my expectations and was a delight to watch. Although the trailer spoils a major plot point, the anticipation of what happens next and the unexpected twists that happen near the end of the movie bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. During my second watch, I especially enjoyed catching the subtle hints and the director's use of character expressions and dialogue to foreshadow events to come. Coupled with the stunning visuals on Blu Ray and the catchy song, Ride Your Wave is well worth watching at least once.In regards to the product itself, the Blu Ray cover features amazing artwork on both sides. The 12-page booklet is also an impressive addition as it features artwork from the film, character concept art, a list of the cast and crew and some interesting insights from the director in regards to how the directions for the plot and the characters were established.Despite the slipcover having some minor folds at the bottom, the rest of the product arrived in excellent condition. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase of Ride Your Wave on Blu Ray and would strongly recommend it to both fans and newcomers to the movie.

Me gustó mucho la película, excelente y todo, pero me pregunto por qué no llego el protector o forro que cubre la caja de la película, si en las imágenes subidas por el vendedor aparece eso, me decepcionó un poco ya que eso ayuda, solo eso pero la película toda bonita y muy entretenida :3

I like Yuasa’s wildness when he makes movies like the night is short, walk on girl, mind game, or ping pong. I find his work a little boring when he clearly chases the mainstream like this or Lu over the Wall.
