The 3000-Mile Garden: An Exchange of Letters on Gardening, Food, and the Good Life
K**L
Two experts share their love of life in the garden.
Leslie and Roger's letters take one back to a time when thoughts were considered before being written - and yet they each have an easy style expressing thoughts and ideas so naturally as friends do. Their shared passion is gardening of course and by extension - food and people in their lives. Roger's expertise as an English gardener is tremendously impressive, at the same time he seems so humble and down to earth - you know you would enjoy sharing a glass of wine while he probably would make you feel as though you knew something about gardening. Leslie's gardening expertise began with the "taming" of her challenging terrain - first in Maine - where she grew vegetables for survival. Her wit and literary skills are thoroughly enjoyable. As a western gardener I can relate to her American gardening trials - it is always the temperature and weather conditions facing us.If you have an interest in gardening I think you will enjoy this exchange of letters. There is always so much to learn, Roger and Leslie have created a delightful environment for your gardening education.

Serendipity
This is a wonderful time honored letter exchange between London and Maine from the days shortly before email and reality television. Passionate renowned garden experts and writers Roger Phillips and Leslie Land write about the trials and tribulations of their respective garden projects which on a scale not for the faint hearted and have a good old spirited chat across the pond about the important things in life. Both authors are foodies and Leslie is an established cookery book writer which means there is the added bonus of a few lovely nurturing recipes too, the nectarine upside down cake is heaven on a plate! The book evolved into a delightful documentary series, surprisingly not available on DVD despite continued interest... check out the blogs. In the meantime I recommend this book is best enjoyed guilt free from the comfort of ones own squishy armchair whilst someone else gets on with the garden.

good read
it was a bit tedious at times but for those who are gardeners, or like to read about personal, day to day cultural differences between America and England, it was fun and quite informative.

charming correspondence
Almost a love story, these letters make up a true loving, respectful and worthy book. I could read it over and over, and in addition to admiring these two correspondence, get some gardening info.

THE 3000 MILE GARDEN
I loved watching this programme when it was on the television and I read the book too, which I still have. I was pleased to still get a copy for a friend as I have told her how good it is but did not want to part with mine! Fantastic price and really quick delivery.

A charming collection of letters
An informative collection of letters for anyone interested in gardening, London squares, Pimlico or cookery. I skipped much of the cookery bits but learnt a lot about the rest. I now can't wait to visit Eccleston Square garden!
